Small/micro Business energy
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has knowledge about the energy market for businesses. We qualify as a 'microbusiness'. I took over some commercial premises at the end of last year. The previous tenant was on a great deal which obviously I can't use. I have been put on 'deemed' prices. Right now, with the state of the energy…

Eon next transactions on account
Hello This may be a really daft question but I have transactions on my eon account showing money being taken from my account before the bill is due. This appears random and only looks to have started since my fixed tariff finished at the end of January and I went onto the cap. Eg 11 march gas 18.81 out 24 Feb gas 24 out 29…

October Price Cap
Here is the first guesstimate I have seen for next Octobers price cap. REMEMBER this could be wildly inaccurate but it might be useful when looking at fixed rates going forward. Personally as we stand now I think it may be slightly cautious, but then again the government could intervene to cushion any rise.

2 year fix now uncertain
Hi All My current 1 year fix ends in April with British Gas My current supplier British Gas has offered a "exclusive" 2 year fix which works out at approx. 20% more than the standard variable rate for April 2022 There is a £100 per fuel exit fee with the 2 year deal , which is my main concern as 2 years is a long time…

Octopus, confused
Hi My Octopus fix ends on 22nd March and if I'm honest, I'm confused about what to do and what the future bills will be I've used the MSE energy club. Currently paying £1400 per year and according to the energy club, I'll automatically go onto Flexible Octopus v2, putting my bills at £1750 per year. But when I compare the…

Are USB sockets wasteful?
I have USB plug sockets in my house. I know they draw power to convert AC-DC. Is it worth replacing them with standard sockets to save money? (I already have some standard ones so this wouldn't be an expense) TIA

Why do newspapers say oil could reach $140 a barrel when the futures price is $95?
(Interested as I have to time purchases of heating oil) The current futures price for oil in Dec 2022 is $95 https://www.theice.com/products/219/Brent-Crude-Futures/data?marketId=5166946&span=2 But I'm forever seeing news articles saying the price will rocket to $140+ I wouldn't expect big petrol suppliers to use…

Do energy club comparison prices list post 1st April prices?
The energy club comparison tool has a different supplier to my own listed with rates that are the same as my current rates, with my current supplier (standing charge & unit rate charge). So my question is as above, are the rates listed in the MSE Energy Club comparison tool listing prices for after the 1st April or are…

Credit meters and top-ups - is it possible?
I have just spent the best part of two hours on the chatline with British Gas. I was passed between eight different advisers and cut off once and with each transfer I was sent to the back of the queue. There I would have to languish for 12 minutes each time. At most I was 73rd in line and at the least, I was 60th in line.…

Energy Query - My worked example
Good afternoon, I'd be grateful if you could help confirm/refute the reasoning below, as I consider returning to a fixed/capped rate from the current standard variable one. I'm currently with 'Shell' for my Energy, all runs off electric, I have no gas. Shell recently announced I'd be paying £776/year from 01/04/22…

Hello, I'm moving into a new home next week and setting up the energy the house is currently supplied by Eon Next. They've sent me a letter to look at my tariffs. British Gas credit
Hi everyone! My previous supplier went bust, leaving me with a large credit amount. This was passed to British Gas. I’ve been with them since November, paying £154 DD per month. I checked my credit amount last week and it was £797. I chatted with an agent this morning to claim it back. He said he would bill me then refund…
