Boiler decisions
Not willing to risk our utterly reliable, but 30 year old oil boiler thro' yet another winter and the bloody new regulations, I've had to go over to mains gas My choice of boiler would be a WBosch Greenstar 34 CDi, but my Plumber who has lived in the village for 30 years and trustworthy recommends a Baxi Platinum 33 HE…

Energy discounts
I have noticed many fixed 1 year energy duel fuel deals with providers giving no exit fee and offering a duel fuel discount at the end of the 1 year fixed deal. This is a way of advertising no exit fee effectively. Are these worth taking as this market seems to be ever changing?

How often to submit meter readings?
So we are finally in our new house and changed our meters from the prepayment that we inherited to a standard credit meter. I have direct debits set up for both electric and gas and assume they estimate the bills? If I submit more often meter readings I assume again that our bills and payments will be more accurate? So my…

Eon smart gas meter displaying kwh
Hi everyone, My Eon smart gas meter displays the meter reading in kWh and not m3. I am having real difficulty providing meter readings to the Co-op who I am with now, which today ended up in a rather rude lady telling me I was sending in meter readings from my electricity meter rather than the gas meter! She then emailed…

Exit fees: Were you told you'll pay if you switched within the last 49 days?
Energy customers are welcome to switch to another provider penalty-free within the last 49 days of any fixed contract. MoneySavingExpert has previously reported that some energy companies including British Gas and nPower gave incorrect information and sent customers communications telling them they'd have to pay exit fees,…

British Gas (Matin's deal) inform of my leaving when I haven't switched
My energy club deal from here expires in October. Just had an email from British Gas informing me they are sorry I am leaving and the new supplier will take over 6th Aug. I have absolutely no idea why I have had this message as I didn't make any switch. Too early to phone them so asking here.

High Electricity Usage??
Hi everyone, I would be grateful if anybody could advise me or provide an opinion on the following as I am at my wits end and not sure what to do next. I’ve provided as much info as possible so apologies for info overload:). Basically I’m really concerned that my electricity usage is far more that it should be and based on…

Problems changing to npower
Tried to change to npower through this site in April this year had worked out it was better to change and pay a penalty to the current supplier(SSE) than to stay with them. I had problems with the electricity where the switch failed 3 times but finally got this resolved due to problems with my house having 2 electricity…

Early leaving fees
In April this year I switched gas and electric supplier for my Father-in-law. Sadly he passed away in May. I have now (after lots and lots of wrangling with First Utility) got them to change the account holder name to my mother-in-law. Yesterday we received a bill for early leaving charges for both gas and electric. No gas…

Cheap Energy Club - Stuck Switch in Progress
Good afternoon all, I switched electricity provider in February through the energy club, went back to check why I'd not been paid for switching and found that the switch is still in progress. I have moved successfully and been billed by M&S (SSE) for the past 5 months so the switch did complete. Does anyone know how I can…

Getting combined Gas and Electric for first time
Hi all, I'm in the process of moving from a flat (no gas - night storage heaters) to a house (gas and electric). Obviously, I was on the cheapest I could be for electric only in the flat, but I'd like to be on the cheapest tariff from day one in the house. There are four people living in the house we are buying, but only…

EDF's Eco 20:20 meter has locked me to EDF
Hi everyone Does anyone else have experience of trying to leave EDF when you have one of their Eco 20:20 meters? We have tried leaving a number a times in recent years but whenever another supplier finds out the meter type, they say we cannot switch. We are effectively locked in with EDF and the only way out seems to be to…

Generally best value gas/electricity provider?
Hello, Ok so ummm I've rented for the last few years and my utility bills were included in the rent (so I haven't looked at suppliers for a long time - and have nothing to really compare to when looking at comparison sites). So, is there a 'generally recognised' market leader for gas/elec on 'general value' basis? I'm…

Credit check - Switching from Prepaid meter to regular
Hello :) We just bought a property which has a prepaid electricity meter. No gas in the property only electricity. I called British Gas (the provider) to ask to switch to a regular meter. The guy ran a credit check and said it came back negative. He said that my score needs to be above 800 to qualify. I was surprised as I…
