Electricity Prices
Have they significantly increased over the last year? I'm a single fuel user, approx 3200 units a year. I'm always changing for the best deal. In recent memory prices haven't changed much for me. I'm with eon now paying approx £390 a year. Best deal prices now when comparing are approx £450? I'll be on standard rate come…

Smart meter problem
I am abroad but cannot get any answer locally so, as smart meters are presumably much the same everywhere, it seems worth trying on a UK board. We have a smart meter installed, and the electricity supplier is kind enough to provide an hourly analysis of electriicity consumption on their website. The hourly consumption…

Boiler Advice
Needing some advice, our house was built in 1999, and the boiler (Ideal Classic LXRS RS250) came with the house. Generally the boiler has been trouble free since we purchased the house 8 yrs ago. Recently we are having issues with the central heating pump (noisy and spluttering on startup) and in general the boiler taking…

Electric hot water boiler no hot water
Hi all, Having some issues with no hot water. Moved in a week ago, we are on a eco 7 tariff but I have requested a fixed one and was told that would be fine. There is a seperate fuse box with eco 7 as one of the fuses. Is it possible the hot water boiler is wired to this and now they have moved me to a fixed tariff that…

GB Energy go bust -- 160,000 customers unaffected
I am still struggling to believe that Co-Op Energy are honouring existing GB Energy tariffs. For electricity, I am paying 9.4p per kWh fixed until the summer. These low rates were obviously contributory factors to GB's demise in a period of rising prices. I understand Co-Op's reasons -- to expand their customer base -- but…

advice needed "extra energy" are taking the p
I will try and make this as simple as possible. We had tenants in our house (that basically left it in a right state when they left). They left in July and it has taken us until december to get someone else in. The agents didn't seem to know who the bills were with, but made a huge mistake reading the meter when the…

"Government funded new boiler" - telephone scam?
This is of course a scam but I'm wondering if others have been enduring these annoying calls over the past few weeks. The call is from a different number every time, the recorded message stating that this is regarding getting a government funded new boiler, press 9 to continue (no, I'm not stupid enough to do that). Etc.…

Energy suppliers
Hi all, I have never switched energy suppliers before, i have been with EDF for both my gas and elect for over 12+. I tried putting my details in on a comparison site. The results which have the biggest savings are small new companies i have never heard of like Toto energy, the next best was Economy energy. Is it safe…

Can't fit gas Smart Meter due to IJ on pipe
Just had SSE round to fit my Smart Meter, however the installer took one look at my gas mater and said they are not allowed to fit it as it has an Insulation Joint (IJ) on it. He suggested only option was National Grid would need to be contacted to remove this but was not sure if they would do it. HAs anyone ever…

British Gas Hive Heating - your thoughts/experiences
I'm thinking of getting BG Hive heating installed, but before I do I would like to get your thoughts and experiences of the system or similar devices. How useful are you finding it and have you noticed and reductions in your energy bills? What problems have you experienced? Did you install it yourself? Thanks.

The Epic Tale of the Scottish Power Debacle
Hi. Been a long time since I have posted on this board, but I am after some advice regarding our ongoing debacle with Scottish Power. My partner has had the unfortunate honour of being the person most involved in this, but as I have the account on this forum, I am posting our story. We originally moved in together last…

Short term sign ups - which companies are best?
Morning all MSE people - bit of a query around utilities.... I'm moving to another city in January for 4/5 x months (Jan to May)and may well have to set up utilities in my name at my new renting house. I'd rather not put my name to any bills as I am not staying long. Are there any companies that accommodate a short term…

Will ovo stop my fixed rate?
As a matter of interest - once I go through MSE to do a recommended switch, will Ovo immediately take me off my fixed rate contract ending Feb 3 and put me onto their basic variable rates until the switch is completed, or leave me on the fixed rate till they complete?

The future with Electric Smart Meters query
There seems to be a lot of hype on the TV, leaflets though the door and cold calling sales man from the door asking me if I wanted to switch over to a "smart meter". The main claim being more accurate billing rather that relying on estimates. As with all cold callers I told him to shoe off. It got me thinking and I'm…
