Hi all,
Having some issues with no hot water. Moved in a week ago, we are on a eco 7 tariff but I have requested a fixed one and was told that would be fine. There is a seperate fuse box with eco 7 as one of the fuses. Is it possible the hot water boiler is wired to this and now they have moved me to a fixed tariff that fuse box is no longer powered?

Yer we did0 -
It's possible; it depends on your meter/teleswitch and how it's wired.
Have you check the immersion heater thermostat hasn't cutout and needs to be reset. Youtube video
Switch off at the mains before removing immersion heater cover -- exposed live terminalsA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Many older houses had the immersion heater(and storage heaters) on a completely separate electrical circuit to the rest of the house.0

Hi,
when you were told that you could switch to a 'fixed tariff' did you switch off the E7 fuse box?
Was there any change to the actual wiring, because on the E7 set-up your heating and immersion heater would be on a timed circuit, coming on 11-6, 12-7, or thereabouts.
You will still need the E7 fuse box switched on, or use immersion heater on boost.
Are they just going to add your two meter readings together to produce a bill for the 'fixed tariff'?0 -
Do you mean you've gone from a two rate tariff (Peak/Off Peak) like E7 to a single rate tariff as distinct from a fixed or variable tariff where the cost per kwh is fixed.
Did someone come and change the meter? If no one has come to change your meter or alter the wiring then whatever is wrong isn't due to the tariff that you are on.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
All what has happened is that the supplier has totalled the day/night and billed you single rate. To get off eco 7 a wiring change is needed and a meter exchange and any wiring change must be done by either a private electrician or possibly the DNO and they will charge a fee of course. I don t think meter fitters are trained to alter the wiring and exchange from Eco 7 to single tariff. Only a few of the big suppliers can actually total the two together anyway.None of the little suppliers can do it so to do the job right you would have to pay out to get the wiring altered and meter exchanged and even the exchange of the meter may not be free. Why should it be ? Your domestic arrangements are not the concern of any supplier. If you want to dump night storage heating its your concern only.
Have a look at the timerswitch set up to ensure that the day and night rates are coming on at the stated times, around midnight to 7.30 am for the night rate. Suppliers could nt give a monkeys if the timerswitch is accurate. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
