Hi,
Just bought a place with electric only so in need of a bit of guidance. The hot water boiler should it be switched on all the time or just maybe over night during the cheap time with E7 then turned off during the day?

I assume you are talking about the immersion heater in the hot water tank?
As you are on an Economy 7 tariff you should have it switched on for around 3 hours during the latter part of the 7 hours off-peak supply. That will ensure the tank is fully heated.
Should you run out of hot water during the day by using baths etc you will have to switch it on for as long as necessary to meet your needs.
It will be cheaper if you turn the temperature of the water up on the thermostat on the immersion heater. However do bear in mind the danger of very hot water - especially if you have young children.0
