Combi boiler - switching on and off wasting gas?
Hi Just had a Vaillant combi boiler installed to replace my old Potterton. What's happening is it's firing up every so often to maintain the flow temp (as shown on the lcd display around 70deg c).Is this normal with these new-fangled condensing boilers? Surely that's going to waste loads of gas for no reason. Why would it…

I have switched last year with the first collective switch. That switch has exit fees which will expire soon. 1.But what does the CEC do when comparing? Does it include these fees in the old supplier cost? 2. How far ahead of the exit fees expiration should I do a price comparison? bearing in mind the time for the switch…

NPOWER sending bills to deceased mum
My mum passed away a year ago. Her account was in credit and eventually closed after chasing several times for the cheque. Despite them having my address and details they have recently sent a bill in excess of £1500 to her last address addressed to the executors. It arrived on the first anniversary of her death to make…

Warm home discount - Sainsburys/BG
Hi I'm currently with First Utility and am eligible for the WHD as part of the broader group. I can save almost £140 by switching (£80 after cancellation fees) but cannot find the date I need to be on supply with BG/Sainsburys in order to apply for the WHD with them. If I can't get it then there's no point switching until…

Name on Energy Club different to present energy company's accounts
I have my own name on the Cheap Energy Club. But the present energy accounts are in my wife's name. So if I click a "switch to this tariff" link it takes me to Moneysupermarket switching, but of course with my name (and address) pre-filled. My question is if I change the name to my wife's will it get properly tracked for…

Help finding new tariff
We bought our house over a year ago, and our tariff is ending in September, and to be honest I found finding a tariff easier when we had no idea the amount of energy we'd use when we got the house! We are currently with First Utility. We are in a 3 bed semi detached, just the two of us living here. On the "iSave Fixed v27…

Electric underfloor heating vs electric heater
Hi I'm doing up some rooms in a terraced property with no gas. Can either put in electric radiators or electric underfloor heating. Any idea which will be cost less to run? Electric rads would probbaly dissipate heat stranght up but I'm guessing electric underfloor would evenly heat up from thr floor thus better? (another…

Pre-Cast Flue Problem
A few months ago we moved into a 70s semi. All is well and fine until yesterday when the neighbour was having his gas fire serviced. The gas man used a smoke bomb to check his flue and when he did a small amount of smoke came out of his opening but most came out of ours. The gas guy said there must be some sort of breach…

Smart meters and switching provider
Hi, We had smart meters fitted by British Gas about 8 months ago. We're now looking to change provider because doing so will save us around £400 per year. If we do this then does the new provider have to fit new meters? Or can they simply take over the existing meter? Thanks in advance for any advice on this. I'd rather…

Water Usage is too high
I am new flat-owner. Still learning the tricks of the game of being a home-owner. We've received our first water and wastewater bill from Thames water for 6 months of water usage. According to the bill we've used about 400 cubic meters of water in just 6 months (the average annual usage is around 150 cubic meters). Which…

Gas/Electric Bill Who has to Pay?
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes anyway... My partner walked out on me and the kids a week ago, he had the gas/electric in his name only (I paid other bills), he is being a real D_ _KHEAD and has stated that he will not pay the bill of about £167 and that I will have to pay. I am on a very…
