Name on Energy Club different to present energy company's accounts

I have my own name on the Cheap Energy Club. But the present energy accounts are in my wife's name. So if I click a "switch to this tariff" link it takes me to Moneysupermarket switching, but of course with my name (and address) pre-filled. My question is if I change the name to my wife's will it get properly tracked for cashback? I hasten to add I have never switched before.

Hi Savetilibleed

There's no problem with changing the name on the application form. We pre-fil this to cut down on the form-filling, but it doesn't cause a tracking problem if you change the details.

More generally, if you're applying to change tariff with your existing provider, do ensure that you apply in the same name.

OK thanks Dan. I have changed tariffs with the same provider, but via their own website only.

I meant to ask too how long does switching take - I'm a newby in this respect. We have no direct debits to complicate things. For us Green Star looks like the choice fr savings for a year. I'm tempted by a longer EDF fix (current elec supplier and the majority of our energy costs). Decisions!

Switching can take as little as three weeks, but may sometimes take a little longer.
