E.ON - Smart Meters
I am currently with another provider and have a smart meter. Can I move over to E.ON with this? I think I am right in saying yes but it won't be smart anymore? If that is the case, how easy is it to get one of E.ON's smart meters?

Energy prices postcode lottery
Hi, I only found out when switching supplier today that electricity tariffs vary within the UK depending on where you live - at least that's what EDF told me. Is this general knowledge? Why when we have national suppliers, national grid and a competitive market, should this be the case? I have written to Ofgem seeking an…

Most economical way of heating my flat (old gas fire or old central heating)?
I've noticed that my gas bills have gone through the roof since winter really kicked in in December and I was wondering if I might be able to save a few quid by using my old gas fire instead of my central heating. My gas fire is one of those with the dial at the top which you turn, wait for a spark and then pump the gas.…

Rough cost for installing gas to house
Hi all my and my partner are looking to get our own place and found the perfect place apart from one thing. There is no gas in the house and it has storage heaters. The house is 11 years old and there is gas in the street to the older houses. Just spoke to british gas and national grid and they say they can do it but can't…

Working out consumption
Hello, I've been making notes of my energy readings in order to work out my consumption, so that I can see where I'm over-using electricity. (It's not that I can't afford the bill, but I'd rather see my money go into my savings account instead of EDF's pockets where possible :p ) I'm on an Economy 7 tariff, and I work late…

electric central heating
Hi, For 40yrs we have used storage radiators, and are ok with their idiosyncrasies, - you learn to live with them. We live in a gasless village. We have had solar water panels for over a decade, and they have paid for themselves over and over. Now we have a full set of solar PV panels, too, and love them, too. Now I am…

EON heatwise and switching to economy 7
Hi, just had a very confusing conversion with EON and wondering if anyone on here can help. I'm currently on a heatwise meter (economy 10 by an older name) and this meter controls when the storage heaters take on a charge and the water heater comes on. The meters are being phased out and they want to change the meter so…

how much electricity?
I've been searching online for a household average... But I'm coming up with all sorts of figures, so maybe I can ask you guys? Despite all my trying, I can't get our electricity usage much lower than 15kwh a day. That is for a 3 bed detached with 3 adults. Gas boiler, but all electric cooking. How does that compare? It…

2 meters, what's the process on standing charges ?
I have 2 electricity meters but only one has been read and billed with a standing charge since 2008. The non read meter is using around 200 kw/h per week and I have put the money away each quarter but never billed. My question is can my power supplier bill me for 2 standing charges if i have 2 meters also ?

is it worth it to replace lights in house with LED lighting?
Hi folks, I am starting to hear lots of good things about LED lighting and wondering is it a good idea to replace every light socket in house with an LED light. I wonder if anyone on here has done just that, and are you satisfied with the results, as I understand it can be a bit of a minefield to select the right LED…

GDHIF - do I need gas to install a 'waste water heat recovery system'?
I'm a little cheesed off that even though the (2009) EPC for our 1960s built townhouse we bought recently is F (the second lowest rating), there seems to be no way for us to take advantage of the Green Deal cashback scheme due to the fact that: - We are not on mains gas (hence we can’t upgrade the boiler) - We are slightly…

Change your fixed deal now
Our fixed deal ran until August 2015. However a quick look on USwitch showed that we could save £280 per year if we switched to one of the newer lower cost deals. So even paying the £60 exit fees we would still show a saving. A call to our current energy provider and provided we took out a fixed deal with them for a longer…

Hi there all, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with my prepayment meter with southern electric. I'm starting to think there might be a problem with it as this morning the meter cut off at 8:20am, I was on emergency credit but I thought they weren't supposed to go off until 9am? I've read some companies are even…
