E.ON - Smart Meters
Comments
-
Suppliers can't refuse to supply you just because you have a smart meter, so it shouldn't affect anything. If E.On is unable to receive readings from your meter then readings will have to be submitted manually, but there is a good chance that your meter will remain a smart meter. I'm not sure what their policy is on swapping one smart meter out for another if they can't receive readings from the current one, but I'm sure one of their reps will have an answer.0

Hi Cypherite
Your Smart Meter will certainly work with us but it may not continue to be 'smart.' It may become a dumb meter and you'll need to let us have readings manually. This can be online, by phone or through a meter reader.
We're working towards a situation where customers will be able to switch between suppliers without losing the smart part of their metering set up. We're not there yet though.
The aim is to offer all our residential customers a Smart Meter. Whether we can fit one now depends on the region and the type of metering set up already in place. You can register your interest (online or by phone) and we'll let you know if we're able to fit one now. If not, we'll tell you and keep your details ready for when we're able to offer you one.
Hope this helps Cypherite.

I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. I am an EON customer Malc but there is no way I will let you fit a smart Meter no matter how much you try to talk me into it !
In this day and time of rapidly altering fuel rates I advise everyone not to have an SM fitted . When switching it can cause huge problems .
Until SM's become standard across the industry and work seamlessly with any supplier leave well alone !0 -
It's crazy to be rushing the roll-out of smart meters when the technology clearly isn't fully compatible yet. It's like asking everyone with black or silver cars to drive on one side of the road and everyone else with another colour to drive on the other : destined for disaster ...and the completely unnecessary extra expense of changing everyone's meter twice.0

Malc was discussing smart meter options because that is what the OP was asking about.0 -
Morning shammyjack
It's up to you if you want a Smart Meter. We're installing them at the moment in response to a Government initiative. As I said earlier, though, we're only offering them to our customers. It's perfectly ok to refuse the offer.
They come with a display so customers can keep an eye on their usage. This is to help save money by saving energy. Smart Meters can also send us readings remotely so will cut back on the need for estimates and increase the accuracy of bills.
As I say, though, if it's not for you just decline our offer.

Another self appointed board policeman !
The question at hand was whether another suppliers smart meter will work, and how difficult is it to get an E.ON meter installed. It wasn't a debate about the pro's and con's of the meters.
By all means make your own topic to discuss those points with E.ON?
Thanks for your help Malc.0 -
