Rough cost for installing gas to house
Hi all my and my partner are looking to get our own place and found the perfect place apart from one thing. There is no gas in the house and it has storage heaters. The house is 11 years old and there is gas in the street to the older houses. Just spoke to british gas and national grid and they say they can do it but can't give me a rough price.
Has anyone had this done and also had boiler and radiators fitted? They said the house is 29 meters from the supply and just outside the standard distance???? She said it would cost me about 3-600 to get a surveyor out to give me a quote. But I need to know a rough cost really.
Many thanks
Paul

This can be expensive as you are further than the standard distance which can put up costs a lot. Depends on what other services are between you and the gas mains, who owns the land, what they have to dig through etc. So it can vary from £700 to upwards of £2000+. Hence, the need for a survey!
Are their other neighbours who would benifit from a gas supply? You may be able to share the cost. Then the neighbour(s) have the option of installing GCH at will. It may improve house prices/desirability, that can usually get people interested!
Radiator and boiler installation can also vary alot depending on size of house but for a small 3 bed semi you could be looking at £4000- £6000+. That is a super rough guide.
The best thing to do is get multiple quotes and do your research.0 -
This can be like asking how long is a piece of string.
I wouldn't bother with mains gas, stick to a renewable technology such as biomass or heat pumps."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Had it done in 2011. Boiler and radiators cost around £3,100 fully fitted.
The standard distance is 23m. Mine was about 70m from the gas main and cost £3,300. It took 3 1/2 months from the time they quoted until they (Wales and West) turned up to dig up the road. The work itself took 6 days.
I'd say a rough ball park figure would be £5,000 for everything as you have a shorter connection that I needed. It will add value to your house as well.0 -
Thanks for all your replys
Tim did you have to pay for a surveyor to come out and give you a quote?0 -
No, I had to go to the special quotes team, and they spoke to me on the phone whilst looking at Google Street View to ask a few questions Wales and West also posted a few very detailed maps showing where all the pipes currently were within about a 1/4 mile of my house.
I'm not aware of anyone coming out to have a look in person, but they might have done whilst I was at work. The quote itself was free. Thanks for all your replys
