My mother has just received an annual review of her gas and electricity account from British gas. They have decided that her new direct debit for electricity should go up from £40 a month to £90 a month. Her gas direct debit is £58 a month. They have estimated that her electricity consumption for the next 8 months will be…

C/H to be turned off or left on at low temp when hall is empty?
Been having a discussion here about the c/h in our local community hall in the winter. Should it be turned off or left on at low temperature when hall is not in use? I say it should be left on and hall will then heat up quicker when it is turned on full when hall is in use but there is a very vociferous group who say the…

Utility warehouse
A friend of mine was talking the other day about Utility warehouse and I was wondering if anyone has had experience. They were saying something like you get business rates and other business pay towards your bills. Sounds to good to be true.

Moving House-advice please
Hi, I am in the process of moving house and I have advised Scottish Power, who I am with, of my meter readings on the date of moving in (10 September). However, I have just received a bill from EDF Energy to the "owner / occupier" for charges between 7/8-17/9 of £87.26 (these are based on estimated readings). Should I…

How to cancel gas account.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have a gas account cancelled? I have recently refurbished my house, and have no use for gas, as I have installed an air source heat pump. The gas is now completely redundant. I am however paying my utility provider (Spark) a standing cost for gas, which I would like to do away with. Is…

Intermittent gas meter fault?
I know that meter faults are rare. Has anyone ever heard of an intermittent fault? I guess mechanically / electronically it is perfectly feasible. We have a second home. We are currently there now and the meter is moving up daily as we would expect. Central heating costing roughly £1.50 per day. However, for the last two…

Economy 7
Two things to add about Economy 7. One is that our provider (EDF) gives 2 hours cheap rate, then two hours full rate, then 5 hours cheap rate, starting at 10.30pm GMT. I have this in writing. Secondly, although we don't have storage heaters, Economy 7 is the better tariff with our current usage. One factor not mentioned is…

Paying for Economy 7 on a Standard Tariff?
We have lived at the same address for 8 years. On moving in there were only 2 storage heaters in the house and removed these too so have never been used. I checked when we moved in with British Gas and told them we dont require E7 but over the years the bills have been immense! An updated meter was placed in a couple years…
