last years consumption

I am on a fixed rate duel fuel with eon that finishes on 15th October, I asked for a quote on a new tariff but they will only use last years figures.
My usage was high because I had 2 extra adults in the house now there is only me, I explained this to them they also did a calculation which would halve my direct debits, but they insist they need to use last years usage.
If I switched using the calculated usage would they contact eon and ask for last years consumption.

They may do. You can provide regular meter readings and ask for a change to your direct debit payments after a few months if it appears your usage is actually lower. Although they may not do it just before winter. You might need to wait until just after winter before asking for a review and a refund of overpayments.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I doubt that your usage will halve with fewer people in the house.

    Why not just lie?
  • Hi mylucyloo

Our payment arrangements are based on the previous 12 months consumption. We've found that this is generally the best way of estimating future payments.

However, we do understand circumstances change so have introduced an online tool to take account of this.

The new Direct Debit Manager lets customers change their monthly payments by up to 20 per cent up or down, provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings. Up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.

This is to allow customers greater control of their accounts so changes of circumstances can be better reflected in their payment arrangements.

Before completing the change, though, you'll be shown how much the account will be in either credit or debit by the time of the annual review if the change is put through but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

I'd suggest having a look at this tool. Could give you an indication of the effect the changes in your circumstances might have.

    Hope this helps.
