Moving house and energy
I've just moved house and with it energy supplier, from the recent best selling Scottish Power fixed rate deal to the British Gas standard deal (both dual fuel). I'm keen to get off BG asap. BG tells me my account is now set up with them but they have yet to take any money from me. Is there anything stopping me moving to a…

I have a friend who has energy debt with n power. For two years they kept sending her a postoffice payment card when she needed a metre payment card. Her gas bill is around £500 and they have added a debt recovery thing on her prepayment meter to take £25 before any credit goes on. She is on benefits and has 2 one year old…

We have just moved into our new house! However the housing association have given us instructions to tell the energy supplier ourselves that we are the new tenants (fair enough,) but although the gas meter is a normal one, the electricity one is a pre-payment, and I have no CLUE how to read the meter to get the meter…

Gas usage seems too high
I've been with Scottish Power for 9 months now and just noticed the rate of gas that they claim I am using. Over the 9 months since October 2012 my bills suggest I have already used 32,000 kWh. Projecting for the whole year at the same (summer) rate of the last three months implies an annual use of around 40,000 kWh. This…

Astonoimical heating costs
HI, I have been hit by combined energy bills averaging around £220 per month this year, which is way more than we budgeted. We use the heating sparingly and are always cold also. We had a new gas boiler in and that made things no better, recently we have had extra insulation put in the roof, and the radiators flushed. what…

Moving the meters
My mother has a prepaid gas meter. It is located on the in the back of a deep kitchen cupboard on the floor. She suffers severe arthritis (registered disabled) and it is completely impossible for her to use (hell its virtually impossible for me, a fit 31 year old). There have been occasions when I get a phone call in the…

GU10 /LED question
I have 8 GU10 lights in kitchen/diner, and 4 in the bathroom. I know that the LED are expensive initially, but are cheaper to run. So I'm wondering, as the GU10's need replacing, can I replace them one by one with an LED, ie can an LED work with GU10's, or would I have to change all 8 to LED at the same time?

Npower ditching Spreading Warmth Tariff
I just had a letter from NPower saying this tariff comes to an end on 19th August and my account will be transferred to the standard variable tariff. They have a new scheme called Warm Home Discount, but I don't qualify as no JSA or income support, just tax credits. I called them to enquire as was advised that the standard…

Finding a new electricity company - best service for disabled customers?
Currently I'm with NPower for electricity, I had no problems paying bills until I lost my job and had a huge bill show-up on my doormat. As I'm claiming ESA and can't have a pre-payment meter set-up in my apartment I had to pay via FuelDirect (fortnightly usage, plus a little of the debt, paid directly out of my…

Time to switch?
I moved into my first property in January this year. I only realised the day we moved in that the place had pay as you go meters, which I didn't want. I rang up nPower who supplied the house at the time, and they wanted £150 do exchange both boilers! Sod that. Rang British Gas and they said they'd do it for free. Happy…

Free boiler
I'm 65 in a few weeks. We had our boiler moved and replaced 6 weeks ago. Since then I've had many cold calls about free boilers etc etc. I see there is a discussion thread but it's mainly about cavity wall insulation. It's only the fact that I'm over 60 that may mean I qualify for a free boiler, I'm ok financially and have…

Hi, hoping for advice, we have had a bill for £1072 from EDF who have neglected to keep our direct debits at a rate which reflects our usage since we joined them in 2011. They've robbed me!
I've just worked out that SSE have conned me into paying someone else bill by just putting it in my name after not being able to find the previous tenant. I moved into my flat and signed my tenancy agreement on the 21st of March 2013. In June I got my first two letters from SEE stating notice of electricity disconnection…
