HELP PLEASE. How do I take a reading from a pre-payment meter? (SSE)

We have just moved into our new house! However the housing association have given us instructions to tell the energy supplier ourselves that we are the new tenants (fair enough,) but although the gas meter is a normal one, the electricity one is a pre-payment, and I have no CLUE how to read the meter to get the meter reading. :(

Can someone please advise???

It's an SSE meter by the way... :)

BLESS YOU!!! :T What it is; we are still in our other house, as although our tenancy started today, we still have a month's notice on this house, so we are staying for a week or two while we decorate and carpet the place. LOTS OF STRESS! But very exciting!

So anyway, I rang SSE to see if I could put the account in my name and they said I need meter readings! ARGH. The HA said they had sent them in yesterday, but they said they haven't got them. We went back earlier tonight to get them and didn't know what to do with the pre-payment meter!

So thank you so much. We will go AGAIN tomorrow, and try and get it :)

Sorry, forgot to ask; do I have to put the key in it? And where does it go? Sorry, so stupid! :(
  • you have to put the key in to view certain screens which show things like debt added, and debt repayment ammount per week. Key go s into an obvious slot, I think it only go s in one direction. Got to make sure you get a new key registered to your account so you dont get someone elses debt( think it s screen "S" and "T" for these debt screens )

Dont use the key left behind to top up the meter, contact the supplier who may either send you a new key or tell you take it to a shop to be reprogrammed for you.
