energy debt
I have a friend who has energy debt with n power. For two years they kept sending her a postoffice payment card when she needed a metre payment card. Her gas bill is around £500 and they have added a debt recovery thing on her prepayment meter to take £25 before any credit goes on. She is on benefits and has 2 one year old twins. She is finding it hard to pay all her bills and I have heard about get help to wipe any energy debt. Anyone know where or who she should contact to find out if she can get help as all Npower are saying is she needs to pay it back. Thanks to all who reply with help

If she were on Fuel Direct it would have been about £3.65 p/w (plus consumption) so £25 sounds high. If she's struggling to keep it up go to CAB or a legal advice centre & ask if they can help in getting it lowered
She'll also need to show that a grant would solve the problem (ie she won't still be unable to keep up & just get back into debt) but it may be worth a try, particularly if there is evidence the problem was made worse by Npowers errors as you suggest0 -
First thing to do is contact Npower and ask them to reduce the weekly recovery rate to a manageable amount. They must take into account that she is on benefits.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

£25 per month is very low, not high. On benefits and with two children - so an income of well over £900 per month. No energy bills for ages.
With that high an income and that low a debt and reduced expenditure it makes no sense as to why she is still not managing. Seems exactly the sort of person who should receive no help with having her debt written off.
She needs to seek help and advice on why she is not spending money she is given to provide for her children on them. She should contact social services and report herself.0 -
Thanks to all who replied with helpful info and nada666 you've miss understood my post. She doesn't get £900 a month how did you work it out and its a payment of £25 a week for debt before she even puts money on to cover her weekly use.0

Hi dibs1975,
I think that it would be a good idea for your friend to pop us a call to talk about this, as there may be many options to explore. Your friend can call us for free on 0800 073 3000 or 0330 100 3000 from a mobile (terms apply.)
We also have loads of great information here: http://www.npower.com/home/help-and-support/meeting-your-needs/ which includes ways to reduce your energy to save money and ways to help financially.
Kind regards,
Adam
