I have been treated for cancer since last October and haven't been able to work, my husband is self employed and earns very little. Basically because I've been at home our gas usage has shot up and when I read the meter yesterday we owe Scottish Power £250 even though I paid a DD for £111 the day before. I phoned SP and…

A&F Surveyors - Free Government grant loft/wall insulation
Just had a knock and a leaflet through the door (when I didn't answer) from A&F Surveyors about 100% free loft and wall insulation in my area. It had a hand written name and mobile number on to phone up for a free survey. Is it really 100% free or is there some catch somewhere needing certain benefits to qualify? Also I…

new boilder - British gas
HI, I had recently had a quote for a new boiler from BG , as part of the install they will have to run a new slightly wider pipe from the gas meter to the boiler in the next room. I would prefer that the pipe is hidden , so would probably go with the option to run it up and under the floorboards upstairs and come back down…

Help - electricity usage has shot up! Could it be an electricians mistake??
For some reason our electricity usage has shot up since the summer. We are not doing anything differently, the only difference is that we had a new kitchen installed and the electrics were upgraded. To do this we had to replace the consumer unit which was outdated. Do you think this may have affected our usage??? We are in…

I'm looking for some advice, my British Gas electricity bills have been really high over the last year and a half (around £3,700 in 18 months, £200 odd in one week!) We had this problem a few years ago, British Gas eventually installed a check meter which revealed that the meter was…

NPower won't give me a final bill
I changed provider for gas and electricity on 3 Dec 12, from NPower to Scottish Gas. I have provided final meter readings as of 3 Dec to both companies. Despite repeated phone calls to NPower they have not provided a final bill. They owe me money (between £80 - £100). Where do I go from here?

Join the Cheap Energy Club?
A good idea, but! What and how does it deal with dealing with certain energy companies (FIRST UTILITY for one) that continue to charge your direct debit the monthly fee after you have moved onto the new supplier! They also continue to ignore you even after numerous letters and phone calls. I was not an isolated incident,…

Hello All, I have just got a small section of an electrical wire changed in the loft(running between 2 rooms which are very close) because it was chewed by rats there and was causing tripping. But the electrician did not give us any receipt and when I asked for it, he said that we don't need it for this small work. He…
