I bought a new house on the 7th of December last year but didn't actually start living in the property until the 18th December.
The previous owner got there supply from Ovo. They have charged me £121 for electric for the period 7th December - 13 January and £95.00 for gas for the period 7th Dec - 17th January. A staggering £217 for the both!!! I was only present in the house all day between the 18th December and 6th January. Past that date the house is empty for 10.5 hrs of the day.
British Gas are charging me £120 per month for gas, electric and a home care plan. Unlike Ovo that seem to think it is acceptable to charge you £217 just for the gas and electric.
Also be warned that they base their charges on KWh used as apposed to units used which means they can charge you more.
Be warned!!!

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are getting at.
How does the way Ovo calculate what you owe differ from any other supplier???
The meter records your consumption.
If its electric it records kWh. If it's gas, the metered quantity must be first converted to kWh.
How much consumption do your meters say you have been consumed???0 -
Is the OVO price based on readings or is that what they are saying the monthly direct debit would be? It could well be that the previous owner used a lot of gas and electric and they believe your usage would be the same whereas British Gas are estimating you to be using a lower amount.
I don't get what you mean about the KWH bit either, all companies use same calculation as far as I am aware is just the price and standing charge that is different the bills are calculated the same to convert units to KWH.0
