Happy new year
I've taken a short break during the Xmas Season but wanted to wish all the Utilities regulars and newcomers a very happy new year. I know we get excited with each other from time to time, but essentially this is a great forum with knowledgeable people and lively debate. I look forward to chewing over the issues in 2013 and…

Is it lawful fr an energy company to charge exit fees?
Why do the companies charge exit fees, isn't this wrong as the market would have to be more competitive ?

Am I being a bit thick ? Probably I know but ...
Just a question really. I am on pre pay metres, I know it's slightly more expensive but I prefer not to have a bill for gas and electricity and have to find a huge amount of money at the end of the month. Anyway my question is , why does my wifi absolutely slam the electric? So my broadband box is on and the wifi on my…

EDF's Annual Statement query.
I've received my Annual Statement for Period: 18th Dec2012 - 17th Dec 2013 from EDF and under the heading 'Your last 12 months usage in kWh' it states 2703 and for Gas 16753. Are EDF under an obligation to make sure that those figures (2703 & 16753) are accurate and based on actual meter readings and not based on any…

Cashback when switching to EDF Blue+ 2014?
I'm already with EDF and have decided to switch to their Blue tarrif that is fixed until June 2014. On the comparison sites, they all say 'call us now about this deal' and that it can't be done online. Can anyone tell me if, when I phone they can switch me and will pay the cashback, or whether this is a tarrif only…

We live in a house which we rented out till last december (tenannt moved out). We did a lot of renovations then moved in over the summer. We have an electric payment meter which we regulalry topped up with the key as the builders needed electricity. In the midst of the whole shenanigans I didn't tell them the tennant moved…

How much is my bill??
I have had my current standard "Dual-fuel" account with NPower for the last four years and four months. It now looks like they have got my account mixed up with someone elses (and have had for some time). They appear to have the correct meter readings but seem to have mixed up the DD payments with someone elses account. I…

Npower Homecare 50 - Unhappy With Service Provided
I have just started my 3rd year on the above boiler/heating contract. So far so good, am just waiting for my 2nd year cashback to go into my account, as if you don't make any callouts you get half your payments back. Which brings me to my current problem..... Last week noticed a leak from a pipe in the airing cupboard.…

Swalec - readjusted bill - huge debt!
Hello all, First time poster here but i’ve frequently visited the forum over the last year or so! My partner and I are on the economy 7 tarriff with swalec. Back in October 2012, we received a bill of over 600 pounds. We pay quarterly and it’s normally between 150-200 (can’t remember exactly how much off the top of my…

Prepayment Meter Swapout Issues
I have lived in my flat for just over a year now. It had a prepayment meter when I moved in but a couple of months ago I got sick of it after my power kept going out because I forgot to put money on the key. I called EDF who booked me an engineer to swap it for a credit meter. This is where the problems all started. When…

Wrong Gas Meter Serial Number
I got the keys to my new flat last week and want to set up a gas and electricity account with British Gas. I phoned them to sort it out and they told me to go and check the serial numbers on the meters to make sure they switched the right supplies. The electricity meter matches what they have in the database, but the gas…

EDF keeps sending letters to me for a bill that's already paid
I've paid a paper electricity bill from EDF early in December. Today I received the second "overdue" letter - I'd ignored the first one, thinking that it must've been a glitch but apparently this is not going away. All I have as an evidence is an entry on my bank statement, as I used an iOS app to make the payment. What is…

EDF admitted to not charging me for GAS!!
Hi I'm after a bit of friendly advice. I recently switched from EDF to another supplier at the end of my fixed price tariff. Having done this several times before I expected a final bill however what actually happened was they took £380 out at the beginning of December. Upon contacting them (as I was sure this was to…

Prepayment Meter help
I will try and explain the situation as detailed and concisely as possible, but I am losing the will to live. We moved into our current property on 8/12. It has pre-payment meters. We are currently awaiting British Gas to take over. The current supplier is N-Power. There was no card for the Gas meter, so contacted N-Power…

E.ON won't allow me to fix prices before price hike?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I was hoping to fix my energy prices just before they rise by 8% on 18th January 2013 however, having called E.ON they told me that I can fix my current prices until 18th Jan and then my price plan will go up! I thought the idea of a 1 year fixed price plan was that…

Simply Switch / Npower problem
Last year I used a comparison website (Energy helpline I think) to switch to the cheapest provider which was Npower. The transfer went through very quickly and I received the cashback with no problems. After 12 months I did another check, but used Simply Switch due to the higher cashback. The cheapest provider was Npower…

Switching: Variable online tariff to Fixed...
Seasons Greetings all!! I changed to 'Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 17' a few months ago after coming off one of their capped tariffs, and yes I should have changed to a fixed one elsewhere at the time... but hey ho, will do that now. My usage over the last 12 months is pretty much what Scottish Power forecast for the…

Gas Meter Replacement and Change of Supplier
G4s sent a letter to replace my meter because it is "at the end of its usable life" and "no longer certified for use". They sent this on behalf of my old supplier but I have recently switched (supply is now live). Anyone offer any light on this? My meter was replaced in 2000 and is a schlumberger/actaris. I know I should…
