EDF admitted to not charging me for GAS!!
Hi
I'm after a bit of friendly advice. I recently switched from EDF to another supplier at the end of my fixed price tariff. Having done this several times before I expected a final bill however what actually happened was they took £380 out at the beginning of December.
Upon contacting them (as I was sure this was to high!) they finally admitted that for the 12months I was with them they had only charged me for electricity. They said that I should have realised this and that I had had the gas and therefore needed to pay for it!
I disputed this given that I had a dual fuel account and that I had signed and agreed to a single direct debit which they had a responsibility to manage and that as far as I was concerned they had issued regular bills (albeit they are confusing) and taken regular payments. I wasn't to know they were not charging me for gas.
In the end they agreed to refund me the £380 if I agreed to set up an instalment plan.
I did this as I wanted the money back in my account although I haven't signed up to a plan as yet. I also had to then chase this up twice before the money went back in and I'm still awaiting for an explanation as to how this error occurred in the first place.
Would you agree to pay this balance or would you report to the regulator. I'm disgusted with their treatment of me to date and feel that had they done what they were supposed to do in the first place I wouldn't be in this situation now.
Any thoughts??

Sounds a little strange, so what happened when you supplied them gas readings during the 12 months, it should have been picked up them. Although 380.00 is cheap for a year of gas too0

They did the same to me but I didnt realise for 21 months when they suddenly upped the payment. Tey sai they were only allowed under the rules to go back 12 months so they had to right off 9 months which was about £600 so I was quite happy -mm should have pushed harder!0

I have dual fuel with a single payment but on the bill itself it
is quite clearly marked with Electricity amount and Gas amount.
Youve been getting the bills. I could understand if if you said you hadnt been
getting any.
So sorry, you should have noticed it yourself so they arent fully at fault.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If you have used the gas then what reason do you have for not expecting to not have to pay for it?
I am sure the bills are not that confusing - our EDF one has quite obvious totals for gas and electric so not sure why you find it confusing.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
No advice I'm afraid, but EDF are rubbish. We lived in a rented flat and went from prepayment to standard meter, after which they sent us bills telling us we owed them no money. I called every 3 months when this bill came through to tell them that this wasn't right and could they send us an actual bill. Every time we got the same bill, you owe £0. Eventually, I got them to send me a letter confirming that I had called numerous times to ask for an up to date and accurate bill. Almost 6 years later, and 2 properties later on, I still have heard nothing, despite confirming with them every time, at every property (where I signed up to their tariff) that yes, I was in fact the same person. Luckily they can no longer charge me for it, but I got free gas for almost 3 years. We used to open our door, and the neighbours door who lived upstairs so we could heat the entire house (which had been divided into 2).:rotfl:0

So when you got your bills, what did they say? Did they say that gas was "£0.00" or an actual amount, but didn't actually take for it in the DDs?0

I didn't they never asked for one but I did have the meter read twice during that time. 380 isn't bad as I work away 4 nights out of seven!0 -

Yes I got the bills and I can see the cost for electricity and gas but the issue is they only took the amount for electricity.0 -

I expect that when I am billed for something and I have signed up to direct debits that the company I have made the agreement with honours there side of the agreement to enabling the customer to appropriately budget etc. My bill indicated a charge for gas which I believed I would be charged for.
In relation to the confusing bills I think my comments are fair given that both ofgen and ministers have called on utilities companies to make their bills clearer.0
