Do you have to allow meter readers to gain entry?
I had a meter reader call today and I turned him away. He went away without a word, but ages ago I had one come who said I have to allow him to read it. Simple fact is, I don't like strange people coming into my house, unless it's an engineer or tradesman who I'm expecting. When a reading is due, I submit it online to EDF,…

Is there a cheap time to run the washer when on a prepay meter??
Hiya, I am on a prepay meter for both gas and electricity. Can anyone tell me if it is cheaper to run my washing machine, dishwasher etc. in the middle of the night than it is to run it at say 7pm in the evening?? How can I find out how much I'd save if this is the case? Also, what are the cheap rate times? I don't get any…

We desperately need a new boiler. Unfortunately we're not in a position to purchase one outright and, have it fitted etc. I came across a company called " Everlasting boilers ". I rang for general info. Currently half price rental of £ 4.44 a week for the first 3 months and then this doubles. All servicing, 24 hour…

Tariff discrepencies?
I'm just looking at comparison websites as my current deal expires at the end of November. However the 2 sites I'm using are offering the same deal, but with differing costs! I am comparing between the UK Power.co.uk website and energyhelpline.com. It seems that all of the tariffs, for the same deal, are more expensive on…

Avoiding product cancellation fees..
I am on a fixed tariff with eon which ends in Nov. I used a switching service to change to a fixed tariff with first:utility. Advised eon that I wanted the changeover to happen once my deal with them ends, so I don't get clobbered for £30 early termination fees. But eon say they have no control over when it happens (some…

EDF waiting times
Have any EDF customers found it takes an age to get through to a person at EDF when you ring them? Took me 40mins the other afternoon!! When I mentioned it they said that the reason was too many people coming off tariifs and swapping to other tariffs EDF were introducing so the best time to call was between 8am- 9:30am!!

Scottish Power - Not Enough Staff?
I am in the process of transferring to Scottish Power and the whole thing has dragged on and getting information out of them is almost impossible. My biggest complaint is the amount of time you have to wait to speak to somebody. I have been with EDF and SSE in the past and calling them you never wait very long at all.…

Cost charged internally for a meter change?
I note the smart meter rollout being alleged to cost many billions. I recently had an electricity meter swapped out, and it took around 20 minutes. Making some realistic assumptions, I came to the conclusion that a total price for this of around 50 pounds wasn't unreasonable for someone doing 10/day. (as he claimed). (20…
