Tariff discrepencies?
I'm just looking at comparison websites as my current deal expires at the end of November. However the 2 sites I'm using are offering the same deal, but with differing costs! I am comparing between the UK Power.co.uk website and energyhelpline.com. It seems that all of the tariffs, for the same deal, are more expensive on energy helpline. Can this be correct?

They should be the same annual costs for each tariff, irrespective of which comparison site is used. After all the supplier will only charge one price for your consumption on any given tariff.
Can I ask what annual consumption figures in kWh are you inputting and what supply region (or first part of your postcode)?0 -
My annual consumption is 8200kWh for electricity and 20672kWh for gas. My region is West Midlands - Worcester.0

When I use that data it shows the cheapest dual fuel deal to be:
First Utility iSave v12
Annual cost according to EHL = £1689
Annual cost according to UKP = £1689
Next is Spark Advance - both show annual coat as £1702
Next is Ovo New Energy Fixed (12 months) - both show annual cost to be £1719
I suggest you try again as you appear to have made a mistake somewhere.
Btw, those consumption figures are very high. You could probably save by cutting down a bit.0 -
I think you will find that on energyhelpline it calculates your present annual cost using the assumption that when your current fixed tariff finishes you will move to the standard tariff with that company.
e.g if your fixed tariff has, say, 3 months until it expires, it will calculate your present annual cost as 25% on the extant fixed tariff and 75% on standard rate.
However there should be no difference between any comparison website on the predicted annual costs, but there will be on predicted savings.0 -

Thanks for the replies guys, i will check on both sites again using the same figures, just to make sure.
The figures I have used are from the 3 quarterly bills I've received so far from my current supplier. I simply added them, divided by 3 and then multiplied by 4 to give me some kind of nominal figure to work with.
On the subject of cutting down, I have made a number of changes to my old Edwardian house in terms of insulation and heating appliances and I have also changed our kitchen appliances for high efficiency models. I do however have a wife and daughter who seem to have the metabolisms of a type of reptile!!0 -
Beware of pro-rating like that, because the winter quarter may account for 80% of your annual gas usage. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
