Scottish Power - Not Enough Staff?

I am in the process of transferring to Scottish Power and the whole thing has dragged on and getting information out of them is almost impossible.

My biggest complaint is the amount of time you have to wait to speak to somebody. I have been with EDF and SSE in the past and calling them you never wait very long at all. Every single time I call Scottish Power I am told by a machine that the wait time is more than 90 minutes! Surely with the huge profits these companies make from us they can afford to employ enough staff to answer the phones?

Also I gave them my G + E readings nearly 2 weeks ago, they have sent the G reading to SSE as they have updated it but nothing showing on my E account. Call SSE (Get through in a second) and am told they haven't had it. Call Scottish (wait 2 hours for a call back) and am told they can't even look into the account as it isn't live even though they took over my supply last Monday! Am told that because the account is new it hasn't been activated yet, that is ridiculous, if you are charging me for my services surely it is active?

I have now sent them an email both asking them to send the figures again and complaining about the long wait times on the phone and the lack of information given during the long drawn out process of moving.

I only went to Scottish because I missed the EDF blue promise by a day. Wish I had waited for the newer EDF ones, know they would have been a bit more expensive but EDF CS was always pretty good when I was at my last place. Good thing Scottish give you a free get out as if the inability to get through to anyone continues and no one knowing what is going on when I do get through I will be off pretty soon.

  • I have just had exactly the same thing happen to me. Switched from SSE dual fuel to Scottish Power. Gas changeover went through with absolutely no problems. Hadn't had final electricity bill from SSE and my direct debit had been taken from account. (Hadn't cancelled as when I got my final gas bill was advised not to cancel DD as was owed money on my account.)

I phoned SSE who answered within minutes - in fact, I had to phone them back and again, call was answered promptly. Phoned Scottish Power this afternoon. Recorded message stating was a long wait and could have call back - between 2 hours 21 minutes and 2 hours 51 minutes time! Not convenient so I held on - to receive a message stating the wait time was nearly 3 hours! Anyway, I held on and call was answered after about 30 minutes.

Lady looked at account and there was obviously a problem as she was unable to see why the reading hadn't gone through. Tried to speak to the appropriate department but they were busy so she said she would ring me back. After several minutes she did ring back. Unfortunately, although I could hear her, she couldn't hear me. She put me through to the relevant department (I have no idea which) and yet again, I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. So, rather than offering to phone me back, told me I would have to ring in again. So I am now expected to waste my valuable time holding on for a ridiculous amount of time to try and sort out the problem which appears to be of their making.

Unfortunately, SSE are unable to take the meter reading from me as it is less than 6 weeks since I changed.

Scottish power - not a good first impression at all - I do not have time today (or for that matter, any other day) to spend ages on the phone trying to correct a mistake of your making.
