Npower Price Rise

I have just recieved the notice of price rises from Npower. On my 'Sign Online' tariff, which is supposed to be priced a few points below their standard tariff, they are quoting a price rise of 20.2% for Electricity and 17.9% for Gas! On the MMS page of rises, Npower is shown as 9.1% and 8.8% respectively.
Does anyone know why the difference?

I got a letter today quoting 13.9% for electricity and 10% for gas - I reckon it depends on your previous tariff costs

    Hi philip mcgeorge,

The increases announced recently by all suppliers relate to standard tariffs, this is made quite clear in all the press releases and is based on Ofgem notional consumption levels.

You have mentioned that you're on a sign online tariff, which is a much cheaper tariff than standard.

    Kind regards,

    Adam

THanks Adam for your reply, but it doesn't explain it away. The 'Sign Online 24' tariff says (quote) "... charges are at least 2% lower on an annual basis compared with our standard (off-line) variable tariff."
So, if the standard tariff is rising by 9% or so, this tarrif should not be changing at more than twice that rate. ... Otherwise, this smells of sharp practice!
I have tried to raise this on the phone with Npower, but a queing time of "...more than 45 minutes..." has prevented that happening yet.

I made an enquiry via their website on the 13th Oct with a view to changing supplier after being informed of their inflation busting fuel price increases.

The automated response informed me that they try to deal with queries within the 'next working day' - as of today, I had no response so I resent the message.

The (again) automated response now states that they will try to respond within '5 working days'.

That - and the queing time on telephones suggests to me that many are (hopefully) changing their supplier from these greedy ********!

An awful company and their customer 'services' are absolutely useless.

So once all of the increases have been implemented, will that assertion still apply?
Oh - and just to add - I think the smiley is totally inappropriate in the context of this thread.
  • I am on spreading warmth tariff but i can't compare it because npower do not have a code for me to compare on an independant website. But according to their comparison website i save £2, but the lady i was talking to didn't know what i saved it against. Does anyone know this code? I am really frustrated that i have no way of checking i am on the cheapest tariff!!!

Put your tarriff and actual usage in Kws etc into any comparison site, energy helpline pays cashback in switching to get any savings and if so switch, no exit fees as Npower have raised prices!

I'm asking the same question. Letter today saying 20.3% increase for electricity and 18.0% for gas - also on "Sign Online 24". Way higher than the averages. Same reasons given on the letter as everyone else. Where is there any logic that says price increases (%'s) should be so wildly different? Depending on what? A complete rip-off. Time to leave but are they all as bad???
