Gas central heating or Convection Heater?
Just wondering which is cheaper to run central heating on gas or a cheap convection heater and an oil filled plug in radiator? 2 rooms are used a lot, I have a convection heater in 1 room and an oil filled radiator in another room. Would it be cheaper if I heated the full house using the central heating? A couple of hours…

SSE 9% Increase - AND THE REST!
How many SSE customers have checked their ACTUAL electricity unit price increase from 15th October? I'll bet it's not 9% as I know one tariff has gone up over 16%. It would be interesting to know if other tariffs have increased in excess of 9% (depends on your distribution area as well).

npower to edf switch
I'm in the process of switching from npower to edf blue, as per the title. Just a bit confused about meter readings / dates. Edf asked me to give them meter readings for each utility on certain dates. The electricity date was 25 Sept, and on that date I provided the elec reading of 39531 to edf. I've now received my…

Pre-pay gas and electric
I have owned my own home for around 10 months now and the house had an electric and gas pre-pay meters installed. I am wondering if would be cheaper to get a direct debitted account with a supplier? I think I am paying over the odds for gas as I am topping up my meter with £20 every 10 days and am currently only using the…

Should I pay the exit fee and switch?
I am currently on dual fuel with Npower Go Fix 8 until 3rd February 2013, and if I leave before this date I pay and exit fee of £20 per fuel. In April my statement read "We calculate you use 7,748 kWh of electricity and 7,514 kWh of gas over 12 months. We've used this information, which is based on actual readings where…

Electricity DD too high... thoughts?
Hello Forum, Straight off the bat I want to make it clear that this is NOT a moan-at-a-utility-supplier post. A few months ago when our deal with nPower ended, (spit), a search threw up a new (to me) company called OVO. I decided to switch to them even though I knew nothing about them. I did, however, do a fair amount of…

Dicky economy 7 time switch for 15+ years
It transpires I've had a faulty changeover switch for many years. So Eon had it changed. The meter reader who spotted it told me I'd be entitled to compensation. Initially Eon denied it had been a historical problem, claimed it was just that time and they owed me nothing. But when I asked them look back at their records,…

British gas £200 incentive
I listend to what Martin Lewis said, and a couple of week ago went on U Switch and chose the Scottish power fixed march 2014. Not a huge saving at the moment but over time, should save quite a bit of money as missed price increases. Anyway to make me laugh, British Gas phoned me today, and don't want me to go so offered me…

(Rough) Cost Comparison of boiling the kettle, electric vs Gas.
This seems a little sad, but while I was recovering from an evil RTA, I had plenty of time on my hands. I had an old kettle (the type that has an exposed coil) and wondered if it was cheaper to boil water for a coffee/tea on the gas hob. I then bought a modern kettle (internal hot plate type) later on because the original…

Scottsh? Power!!
Took the advice off your show to switch our electric supplier and the Scottish Power capped rate seemed like the best, so we went through the process and got a letter through asking us to provide them with supply numbers, after waiting an hour an a half for call back, they informed me that they can't take on our supply as…

Confused - do I switch or not?
I'm currently paying by monthly direct debit for gas and electricity from EDF energy. £90 for gas and £51 for electricity. I've looked at the price comparison sites and the most I can save is £118 per year, but this is paying variable amounts each month. I want to be able to pay the same amount each month so I know what I…
