hi all my current tarriff units for Online Energy Saver 20 with scotish power are as follows
20.753 p for the first 225 kWh per quarter,
10.439 p thereafter
5.456p night units

my question to you is should scottish power as expected raise lets say for arguments sake electric prices by 6%(just a guess) does that mean my units prices above rise by 6% or is it worked out a diffrent way when they say raise by 6%

just curious as i,m thinking of fixing to the march 2014 prices
which currently are 22p then 10.9, and 5.9 night units

if i,m not mistaken should they raise by 6% (again just guessing) would it still be cheaper to stay on my current deal?
unit wise

Any headline price change is an average figure.
The devil is, as always, in the detail.
  • does that mean if it was a 6% rise on my current tarriffs above, would i be right in saying the new unit rates would jump from
20.753 p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, to 21.998
    10.439 p thereafter to 11.065
    5.456p night units to 5.783

if so that would make it cheaper than the march 2014 fix price(yes i know its a gamble they could raise between now and then if i stay)
just wondered if they do raise by 6% thats how it would be applied above (unit rate)

The 6% rise is an average rise across all tariffs for their average customer using industry average amount of gas and electricity. Unit rates on any tariff could change by any amount, but overall across the companies customers it would work out at 6%.

This means that its impossible to know what your particular unit prices would be. The best way to compare is to put your annual usage figures into a comparison website and find the best deal.

You then have to decide if you want to pay a premium to go for a fix tariff. Its basically like taking out insurance against future price increases. Only you can decide if peace of mind over higher cost is worth it.
  • if scotish power do raise their prices as expected, and they still have the march 14 fix in place can i switch it online using my online account, if so how soon would it be before id switch to the new rates
  • well as expected they are raising prices, my question is what will my new unit rates be

i,m currently on the Online Energy Saver 20 with scotish power are as follows
20.753 p for the first 225 kWh per quarter,
    10.439 p thereafter
    5.456p night units

can someone from scotish power confirm the new rates once the hikes come into effect, including vat please ?

  • well i just had a look online and this makes good reading,

    "Online Energy Saver 20

Good news! You are not affected by this increase in prices or change to annual discounts. You will continue to benefit from a discount of 8.7% on our standard monthly Direct Debit prices (as at 27th February 2012) until 31st October 2013."

well not until oct next year anyhow, looks like who ever was/with this tarriff there isnt going to be any hikes? or am i reading it wrong? any advice? was thinking of fixing but reading the above from the horses mouth as made me think twice now:) as just sent an email to scotish power to confirm the above statement

for those who are with scotish power sign in online and click "price changes" on homepage, then click your relavant tarriff, it will state if you are affected by this latest price increase or not, good luck
