Confused - do I switch or not?

I'm currently paying by monthly direct debit for gas and electricity from EDF energy. £90 for gas and £51 for electricity. I've looked at the price comparison sites and the most I can save is £118 per year, but this is paying variable amounts each month. I want to be able to pay the same amount each month so I know what I have going out.
I have looked at the blue price promise from EDF which is at the moment £21 per year more expensive but it fixes the prices until May 2014. Is it worth swapping to this tariff to avoid the price hikes yet to come? Stick with what I've got? Or change to another supplier with variable monthly payments?

Which supplier/tariff that saves you £118 per year expects you to pay variable amounts per month?

Even if it does, isn't it worth it for £118?

Use a comparison site to see what is the best deal for you ... and whether a fixed tariff is so expensive it's not worth taking.

Somebody has to try Spark out, I suppose.

Good deals are gone otherwise, so it's worth a punt.

Do report back how you get on.

    EDF standard variable
  • Hi Caz

I am with EDF standard and i have just changed to blue. I was able to do so online with just a couple of clicks so the good news is it is very easy to do.

In my case, electricity only and small usage, it worked out at the same price and there is no penalty to leave should a cheaper tariff becomes available somewhere else so it was a no brainer...

Good luck with your quote comparison!

But that works on a fixed monthly direct debit. The only 'variable' is the rate.
It's also the most expensive tariff.
