I am a widow with 2 children and only get a widows pension I therefore have a pre-payment meter from Scottish Power to ensure that I can budget my money (what little there is) and ensure I do not get into debt. I put £15 per week on my key which just about covers us for a week. Today I received a letter from SP saying I…

Meter change rights
Hi all, Have been advised by supplier (Southern Electric) that my prepayment meter is to be replaced. I'm assuming they will insist on fitting another prepayment meter? However, I'd prefer a non-prepayment meter; do I have any rights? if so, would anyone recommend a meter please? Keep the faith.

Co-operative Energy now launched
I posted back in December about Co-operative Energy who were setting up as a supplier of Gas and Electricity. The trial period of the company is over and they have this month moved to full national launch. They confess themselves that they will never expect to be the cheapest at any one time, but are clearly pitching…

Advice needed - At which point should I complain?
Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice here... I recently moved to a new apartment that uses First Utility's Smart Meters. The landlord insists that we stick with First Utility, so I don't have much of a choice in all this. Anyway, I moved in at the beginning of April and I immediately picked up the phone to First Utility…

"Energy bills set to rise sharply next winter" - Guardian. Time to fix?
We're on a ScottishPower Twinheat plan which we've just switched to and is working out reallly well for us so far. However, at the time of switch last month, they tried to persuade me to lock into a capped tarrif. I hardly thought it was worth it. Now I've just seen this:…

Quidco cashback when changing tariff?
I have just had a new gas meter installed, and, unsuprisingly I'm on the BG standard tariff!! I'm going to change, with BG websaver 11 being the cheapest, but my electricity is currently with OVO (fixed contract ended). As I understand it, I can't get Quidco cashback with a tariff change within the same company, but can I…

Are N-power trying to change my monthly DD amount?? :S
I use N-power's sign-online 18 tarriff as it's the cheapest. I started with them back on 21/10/2010, and have been paying £34 per month as my direct-debit. (I live alone in a studio flat, so my monthly electricty should cost between £30-£40 maximum) I got my 1st bill from them 2days ago, and in a very hard to read order…

Are the price comparison sites working??
Are the price comparison sites working??:o I have been on Scottish Powers Online Energy Saver 6 Dual Fuel tariff for about a year and a half now, so thought it was time to change. Have put my details into the price comparison sites and they are all saying that there is only 2-3 tariffs cheaper than the one I am on. It just…

Enrgy Price Increase
Just wondering looking back at the last round of price increases - Why does gas go up by say 3% but electricity by 9%? I know that there are inefficiencies in creating electricity from any source of fuel but surely these are already embedded in the fixed costs. As a good proportion is generated from gas why doesn't the…

Billing
Hi, This may seem like a stupid question but I currently pay my gas and electricity by direct debit to the same supplier. When checking my direct debit the other day I noticed that it is set up to pay a set amount to each utility, for example £10 to electricity and £25 to gas on a monthly basis. I have recently noticed…

Here is my question, I have just found out from British Gas after signing up to their online system, that they have not been billing me or taking the right payments for around 4.5 years. This now after giving them a meter reading has come up as a…
