Co-operative Energy now launched
I posted back in December about Co-operative Energy who were setting up as a supplier of Gas and Electricity. The trial period of the company is over and they have this month moved to full national launch.
They confess themselves that they will never expect to be the cheapest at any one time, but are clearly pitching themselves against the flow of the "confusopoly" that we have at present.
All the money saving experts on here might not be interested, but for anyone who has gone through an horrific experience with a supplier, poor customer service, a comparison site transfer that didn't actually end up with the deal that it supposedly should have been, etc, etc, this might be the sort of company some people are after.
Their launch video certainly seems to suggest the target market they are going for, to quote one person from the video, is "...simple understandable invoicing that you don't need to read three times, and then bring in the next door neighbour who's got a PhD!" I recognise that sentiment.
There is a £25 off your first bill promotion referred to on their facebook page -

Ive just fixed for 3 years with EDF. If Id known co op was bringing this out Id have hung on to see what they can offer as I have an affection for them
Just did a comparison and they work out £120 a year more than my EDF fixed deal.

I put my current tariff as eon saveonline7 as this is what I will go onto if I stay with eon
and this is what I got
We are only £79.00 more per year than your current supplier
We might cost a little more than your current supplier, but look at all the other reasons for joining Co-operative Energy.
None of these reasons will make me pay £79 more a year.0 -
If it was even vaguely close to alternative deals I would move my electricity supply to Cooperative Energy like a shot.
However, I would be paying nearly twice as much for my electricity as the lowest cost deal, and around 50% more than the average supplier - that difference is simply too much for me to switch to the Coop, as it would make more sense for me to simply go with the cheapest supplier and invest or donate the difference to green energy projects.
As a low user, the standing charge means that Coop will always be significantly more expensive in my case. I hope that they can "unsimplify" their offering just a little and introduce a second "no standing charge" tariff for the low user market in the future.0 -
Hi
Just did a comparison and mine is £136.00 more per year. I bank with Co-op but £136.00 more:eek::eek: I think not. I'm staying with Npower.Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
I can guarantee that Coop will treat you more fairly than NPower. However like you say £136 per year is a mlrage premium to pay for this0

But do you get dividend?0

I still remember my Mum's number from 60 odd years ago.
And getting the acumulator charged for the wireless0 -
As a member you do get some good offers on their electrical stuff actually. I bought a Miele vacuum yesterday online from them at £242 - £319 on amazon, £279 on John Lewis and I got free next day delivery plus my dividend points0
