Billing
Hi,
This may seem like a stupid question but I currently pay my gas and electricity by direct debit to the same supplier.
When checking my direct debit the other day I noticed that it is set up to pay a set amount to each utility, for example £10 to electricity and £25 to gas on a monthly basis.
I have recently noticed when submitting readings to the supplier that I use more electricity then gas.
I get bills on a quarterly basis, this raises the following two questions:
1. Is there any way I can continue to pay by direct debit on a monthly basis and receive bills monthly rather then quarterly?
2. If I use more gas then electricity will the supplier just use the whole funds I have sent across or will they ask for more and leave a build up of funds in my electricity pot??
Thanks

Some suppliers, like yours, have a separate Direct Debit for gas and electricity. They usually will not transfer a surplus on one account to the other.
Others(EON and Scottish power for example) have only one Direct Debit to cover both gas and electricity.
There are a couple of firms that do monthly bills - but they tend to be more expensive.
Your best bet is to monitor your account and ensure you are paying the correct level of DD. Don't forget that the discount you get for payng by DD dwarfs any loss of interest you lose by having a credit balance.0
