Thinking Of Switching.
Hi there, I am currently with British Gas on a duel fuel playing around £750 p/a. A sales man from Scottish Power came round telling us we can save money so we signed up..we are still in our cooling off period so we can cancel if we wish. Abit of research shows that nPower or EDF would be cheapest for us, with EDF giving…

Solar FIT tariff and electricity charges
Ok, so I'm a bit green (in more ways than 1) I'm interested and have got a quote for solar Pv and have 2 questions. 1 - Why does the benefit of PV go down the more you export? 2 - I need to change from elec standard tariff so should I avoid those with standing charges if I get the panels fitted? I'm just a bit confused…

New Build Property - Need to Switch Utilities
Moved in 1st of July this year. Scottish Power is our default provider. We received the first bill today: £148.71 for Elec (1145kWh x 10.816p) £31.86 for Gas (239kWh x 3.755p) It seems expensive and a quick check seems to suggest EDF would be a lot cheaper, but need a 2nd opinion. BTW, our cooker is Elec, hence the large…

Can I switch if I owe them money?
Hi Sorry if this is covered elsewhere but I have had a look and couldn't find it. We are currently with Southern Electric and I planned on switching to save some money. However because they set the electric direct debit too low and because of their erratic meter reading we now owe them hundreds of pounds, which will be…

ridiculous bills with UW
Hi all, I have done a search but not found anything that will help me too much. This doesn't directly affect me, it's my parents house so I don't have all the details but anyway... We moved into a bungalow in 2007 (it had been stood empty for around 2 years). It was built in the late 80's so is fairly modern in terms of…

Utility Direct Debit issues
Hi, sorry if this is a common question but; Is it safe to go back to DD payment of gas and electric? Have the utilities stopped overbilling? I ask becasue it looks like time to switch and the DD deals are better but a few years ago we ditched DD when BG increased our DD massively. We were buring about £700 worth of gas a…

I'd like a smart meter and Google Power but....
I'd like a smart meter and Google Power but according to Google only First Utility offer them free. The problem is that we have no gas here, and FU said straight away that they wouldn't be competitive without dual fuel. Besides, I'd avoid FU at all costs anyway having read this. And I'll be damned if I'm paying £50 + sub…

I get a meter reader come to read my meters about once every couple of months. I tell them they were only done recently and they get a little bit arsey and demand to read them again. The gas meter is outside so they can help themselves to that but the electric meter is inside and dont want a strange man trapsing through my…

British Gas wrongly stained my credit report
Who should I call? Having previously had problems with British Gas I was amazed when they apologised and wrote off my (supposed) debt. Unfortunately they failed to remove the stain on my credit report. They left it as satisfied instead of removing it completely. Does anyone know how I could rectify this situation? Thanks

Fixed rate explained
Hi, i have to admit I’m not as clued up on energy suppliers as I probably should be. I'm currently with British gas and have decided to move across to EDF's online saver 7 with the £100 cash back and the £80 Quidco offer. However, could anyone just clarify as to what it means by fixed daily charge is as from below. I have…

British Gas Websaver 6 versus 10
Hi, In simple terms is it cost effective to switch from Websaver 6 to 10? I use British Gas for both gas and electricity. Or for that matter any schemes that British Gas offer, which would potentially save me some money. Thanks

Can't save any more
Over the past few years after I retired I set about increasing the insulation in my house and by last November I had reduced my gas consumption from 22,000 kWh average per year to 18,500 average per year as of last November. This is in spite of the heating now being on all day instead of being timed. I also saved…
