Quick answer needed

I'm currently on British Gas standard tariff and looking to switch to EDF Energy Online Saver 7 in order to get the £100 credit plus £80 cashback.

I have gone via Quidco direct to the EDF site and im currently in the process of signing up. Will this terminate my British Gas contract or will I have to call them up to do this?

Thanks

No, EDF will handle the transfer - they will notify British Gas and give them the four week notice. You do not need to do much - just wait for letters/emails from EDF requesting a read closer to the eventual transfer date. Make sure you keep a copy of any final bills from British Gas and check they correspond with opening reads. Note that you may not receive a final bill from British Gas for ages - suppliers can sometimes take months rather than days.

If you haven't already compare your most recent bill with your meter readings now to estimate what sort of debit/credit is on your account with British Gas. Make sure you put some money aside for this.
  • It's ok I have found out now that they do sort all the switching for you. I just hope I have made the right decision!

Thanks for the reply. I haven't had a bill yet as I only moved house about 3 months ago so I assume I am due one soon. I have been paying £22 and £27 per month direct debit but the house is currently empty and I only use any of a weekend when I am doing work on it. EDF are going to be charging me £20 each as well as the £100 credit and £80 cashback from quidco so I think I've done the right thing.
