How to find who currently supplies gas/electricity/water?
Hi I've just moved into a new place and want to set up accounts with the utilities, but I have no idea over what ones are currently being used. The EA is dragging their heels and I wan't to get this sorted sooner rather than later. It is not clear from any of the meters what provider is used. Any ideas? Thanks John

I've just moved into a house that's been empty for the last four years following my father's death, and on submitting a gas meter reading have been presented with a bill for nearly £500. I've had the boiler replaced in the last couple of weeks (the reading was taken before this), and the plumber assures me that there are…

Gas meter not moving for past 2 years!
Hi If anyone has any advice we would appreciate it..... We had our gas meter fixed a few years ago as it was sticking and thought it was working again. However, over the past two years it has been moving very slowly, we keep ending up in credit on the account and claiming it back. It was great for a while but had to be…

EDF - so not happy again!
After switching from Scottish Power due to them vastly underestimating how much I needed to pay for gas and electric, and ending up with 2 massive bills I thought I'd give EDF a go. Another mistake! In Dec 2007 I was presented with a £400 gas bill. I rang and said why was it so much when I'd been assured several times that…

Six month billing?
We're just coming up to the end of our first three months in a new property with a new Gas + Elec supplier - EDF, and I've heard a rumour that some companies are now opting for 6 month biloing rather than quarterly, so people are being hit with massive bills "out of the blue" (well, obviously they know that they've got to…

BG one-off boiler repair rip off
The advertisement for a British Gas one off boiler repair states "no exclusions" and "one year guarantee on all work", until you hand over the money that is. After payment and repair I was told my boiler was too old and the repair would only be guaranteed for 28 days. There were exclusions, and after complaining this was…

Gas calorific values
Hello to all, first post. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere although I could be wrong of course and I'm hoping this is the right place to pose such a question. Has anyone noticed a reduction in the apparent calorific value of their gas supply recently? To me the gas rings just don't bring things to the boil as well as…

Crazy Electricity Bills
Hi, I stay in a 2 bedroom conversion flat with my brother. I moved in this property in Sep 2009. Recently, I got a call from Southern Electric stating that I had a crazy bill of over £3000 due to be paid. I took the meter reading and gave it to them and that brought down the bill to £1300 for the period of Nov 2009 till…

Different services - much of a muchness? (new customer)
Hi guys, I've just ran through some comparison sites (putting high use for both - the house is a 4 bed and unfortunately I like my electrical gadgets and warmth!) and ovo and first:utility come out quite a bit cheaper, but have fairly poor ratings. EDF, Eon and Sainsburys are all a similar price, whilst my original…

Compensation amount for loss of supply anyone know please
Hi can anyone tell me what the rate of compensation is for loss of gas supply. I had heard there was a daily rate that you are entitled to when you have no supply. Basically we moved into a property August 2009, we reported a gas smell to the council, they told us not to worry about it, so we reported it to transco. they…

Npower changed the name on the account without authorisation!
Hello all, I currently live in a shared house. We all pay a set amount each month, including all the bills. In fact all the utilities are in the landlord's name. Sometimes he can get a bit sloppy at paying the bills on time, but he usually pays them in the end! The problem is that the gas/elec provider (nPower) have just…
