Hi all, I did a little experiment this week and turned the CH off for 7 days.
Total unused was 4 hours a day = 28 hours.
I read the gas meter today and was surprised to have only saved £4 for the total 7 days. We have the hot water on only for which I was charged £4.43.

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.

As the weather slowly warms up, I've been gradually decreasing the heating so it's now only on for 2.5 hours a day (a bit in the morning and a bit in the evening). Hot water comes on when demanded (combi boiler in my rented flat), so that probably saves a bit of money too. Not long til I'll turn it off completely (fingers crossed we have a decent Summer, or failing that I win the lottery).0

It was on the BBC news this morning how fuel bills are to keep going up. The remedy offered was to insulate our homes more. It was then pointed out that this would also cost money!
My 3 bed semi is well insulated and I do not think there is any more insulation to add. Thr Ch is off but we have a coal fire we also use for warmth in the evening.
I think our bill is in the low band but have been working on that since the begining of winter. I used it as a game to seen if I could get the fuel charge lower each week as I read the meters just by turning things off like lights and stand by's on plugs. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

There is only so much one can do to insulate, it gets expensive when you have solid walls and there doesn't appear to be any grants available0

i cant even insulate my walls:( and im end of terrace. the house is not made of brick and we dont have cavity walls, only the loft has been insulated. ive got lined curtains in the front room but will be buying thicker ones for this winter. have got a lined curtain up at the front door and also draught excluders. my house gets very cold and i hate it, i preferred living in my maisonette which was lovely and warm and hardly needed the heating on.I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!0
