How to find who currently supplies gas/electricity/water?

Hi

I've just moved into a new place and want to set up accounts with the utilities, but I have no idea over what ones are currently being used. The EA is dragging their heels and I wan't to get this sorted sooner rather than later. It is not clear from any of the meters what provider is used. Any ideas?

Your water supplier will be the one for the area. Ask a neighbour if you don't know - they'll be supplied by the same one

Having ID'd them now, should I go straight to the switching process or contact them first? I don't want to tie myself up to a new account with them if I am then unable to switch.

From the day you moved in you entered in to a deemed contract with the current supplier so contact them ASAP to set up an account. Did you take meter readings when you moved in? If not you could end up paying for the previous occupiers usage.

Switching supplier takes around 4-6 weeks so even if you initiate this straight away you will still be with the current supplier for this length of time

Just checked SayNoTo0870.com and found this:

0191 216 3000 this will put you through to M Number section to check your gas supplier. This number should be the same as posted by lemontart.
