Changing suppliers with fixed tariff?
We are on a fixed tariff with British Gas and are tied in until December 2009. We are moving house at the end of August to a property who has their supply with NPower on a fixed tariff until early 2010. We rent properties and the property we are going to is currently vacant. How do we go about sorting out the supply and…

Do quarterly bills still exist?
Scottish Power insist that we no longer have the option to pay our power bills on a quarterly 'by cheque' basis and instead insist on us paying them a set amount each month (like a direct debit but paid by cash / cheque). We put so much money away each month and then pay the bill when it comes in - we do not believe in…

How much electricity do fans use please?
Hello I have a mini tower fan in my bedroom, which I have been having on all night as it has been hot at night, even though the days have not been that summery. The fan is a Fridgemaker 13" mini tower fan @ 30 watts. I am assuming it does not use a lot of electricity, but I just felt like I wanted to check. I just want to…

Cost of converting from electric to gas central heating
Looking at buying a small 2 bedroomed flat but a lot of them appear to be solely electric heating - where could I find out (without having to contact someone for an actual quote) roughly how much money it would take to convert to gas central heating (combi boiler ect) ???? Thanks :)

N.Power swapping from online 14 to 16?
Hi, I have just swapped from online 14 to 16. I have been on online 14 since March. Re:This 'discount' they apply for monthly direct debit. It says you will get it after 12 months and there should be 'no break'. Does this break JUST mean the direct debit bit? Or does it apply to rate tarts like myself, who jump to the…

How do I know if my electric metre is Imperial or Metric?
Hi We have just received an electric bill from Scottish Power and it is showing that we have used £1795 in electricity from 1st December 2008 through till 19th July 2009. This seems unbelievable due to the fact we live in a 1 bedroom flat with Economy 7 storage heaters which are rarely on. The meter we have is a multirate…

Scottish Power - rising bills, but why?
I am supposidly on a fixed price tarriff with Scottish Power for gas and electricity (Product: Fixed Price Energy online). I was happily paying £38 per month, and was being told I was in credit for months on end. All this time I was giving them regular meter readings so I was confident that I was infact in credit. However,…

BG calc of number of higher rate kWh
For most if not all its gas tarrifs, British Gas sets one price per kWh for the first 670 kWh per quarter and a second (lower) price for the rest. BG tells me that for partial quarters the 670 figure is reduced in proportion, a figure of 7.342kWh per day being used. That correctly adds up to 670 for a whole quarter.…

Who manufactures the British Gas energy saving monitor?
I have a BG electricity monitor and it's all fine and dandy, but I'm interested in graphing usage over time rather than the daily/weekly/monthly display on the device. Does anyone know who manufactures the device, so that I can see if there is any software available to do what I would like? This is the same monitor:…

Switching tariff with existing supplier - cashback?
We're considering switching providers - currently paying ~£850pa for gas with E.On and ~£640 for electricity with npower. Looking at the comparison sites, we could save approx £220pa with a dual-fuel tariff from EDF, and about £212 with one from either npower or E.On. Has anyone on the forum done a switch of a second fuel…
