warrant of Entry
Hi all.
for over 4 years I have been disputing my quarterly gas bills but have always paid them, finally in december last i refused to pay the last bill unless they checked and tested the meter. I then got a letter saying thay were applying to court for a warrant to gain access and cut off gas and install payment meter. I telephoned them again saying bill was in dispute, they said there was no record of me making any calls over the past 4 years, however I was then told to ignore the letter and they would arrange for meter to be tested. a a few days later got a letter saying Warrant had been issued and they would be turning up with a locksmith on such and such date, I phoned them but was told dont worry it had been cancelled.
A few days later a Knock on the door, stanging there was a Gas official. Gas fitter and Locksmith with a Big signwritten van outside my front door.
Tried explaining, but was waste of time. they removed meter and installed pre payment meter, was also informed that if I hadn't been in they would have forced entry.
Anyway 2 days later receive Bill for over £8000 as this was what was calculated from the meter which was removed and I had to repay this through the prepayment meter at £20 per week.
To cut a long story short, after over 70 emails which were all initially ignored. they have admitted that the meter was faulty, and at the time they removed the meter no money was owed to gas board, in fact I was £400 in credit.
This they have refunded along with all the twenty pounds I paid off and also reinstalled my quarterly meter.
However No apologies whatsoever for the embarrasment caused or for the struggle it was paying £20 per week for 6 mths into a meter before any gas was used.
Had I not persisted I would be paying off a £8000 debt at £20 per week for years.
my moan over!!!!

First of all congratulations on winning.
Personally, I never file a complaint over the phone. I always write and send the letter recorded. That way I have proof. Tedious? Yes it is. Alternatively, phone, take the persons name, take notes. THEN send a letter (again recorded) stating who I talked to, what time, and what was agreed and telling them that unless they write otherwise within the next 7 days then the contents of my letter is accepted as what had happened.
The other alternative, is to take notes of the date and time you phoned them and then ask them for a copy of the recording. But, ironically, sometimes they do seem to lose the recording or say that there is no such recording/record.

Poor you Figaro what a terrible time you have had. Seriously consider what snakeeyes has said about compensation. Why don't you consider one of those free half hour consultations that solicitors offer for advice?
Glad it is all sorted out now though thanks to your persistence0 -
No apology? That is quite bad, who is your gas supplier?0
