Where's the cheapest utilities for a first time buyer
Looking through the advice on here, it all talks about checking your last few bills and sticking them in comparison sites. That's all good and well if you have previous bills, but we are first time buyers, having recently married and moving out from our parents' houses. We're getting a 2 bed bungalow, with GCH, electric…

last day to switch to scottish power fixed rate until 2011
Although this information is in another thread I thought it would be worth flagging up. Scottish power is doing a fixed rate until feb 2011 and this is the last day you can apply. The lady I spoke to said that was because they were now confident of big rises in energy prices. Overall it only meant a 10% increase in my…

Not being charged for Gas - Advice please
OK... here is what happened. Around 18 months ago I got a knock on the door from a British Gas salesman. To cut a long story short he said that he would compare my current bills to what they could offer... only I have to agree by signing a form. He caught me in the middle of looking after my kids, so I agreed as he assured…

Stung by incompetent energy company
We have been stung by the complete and utter incompetence of E-on. We were first time buyers when we moved into our house in February 2007 and were, if I'm honest, a little naive about how much money we needed to shell out. We had been paying what we assumed to be a decent rate for our combined electric and gas bill.…

USwitch
I today used USwitch to switch my gas and electricity but contrary to what is stated on this site, the terms on the £40 Virgin Wines voucher states that I will need to pay £39.99 plus the postage of packing.... so not a free case of wine then!!!??? I have emailed USwitch but not had any response yet. Has anyone else had…

E4B unethical behaviour
Though they may be acting "legally" E4B seem to be getting away with sickening behaviour with rollover contracts now fixing you in for not one as previously contracted but TWO years! They seem to think that sending one letter which is carefully mailed out to look like junkmail is acceptable. Possibly he worst thing yet is…

Atlantic G&E / Scottish Power mess
I've been a customer of Atlantic Gas & Electric for about 6 years and moved house in February 2008. I let Atlantic know of course and duly noted all meter readings and submitted online with a follow up call to make sure all was okay - all was it seemed. I hadn't realised until much later that it takes 28 days for the new…

How often can you switch - I use zero gas for six months of the year.
Hello all, We use gas for our central heating and nothing else hence our usage profile varies markedly between the winter and the summer. Might we be better off using a supplier who has a higher standing charge and lower usage charge in the winter, and then switching to a supplier who has a lower standing but higher usage…

Was at a garden show this weekend in Brentwood, Essex and saw a bloke at a stand for NPower offering minimum £80 cash back at year end, every year you are with them, for switching to them. You have to sign up at one of the shows and it is not available online or phone...Seemed too good to keep to myself. Think it is worth…

British Gas for Electric - Day / Night Rate Mixup
Hi all, I hope you can offer me some advice. My parents moved into their present home in November 2006. They are on a capped price plan with British Gas (dual fuel) and haven't wanted to switch from this because of the cap. Anyway, they've received a bill today for a fairly large sum. When they questioned this, BG have…

New Gas Supply
Howdy, I currently have only an electricity bill for my flat. This is all set to change as I'm getting gas central heating installed. My question is this. Is the utility switching sites still the best way to get a good price? Baring in mind that I need whatever supplier to install a meter. What's the best way forward? Ta…
