Not being charged for Gas - Advice please

OK... here is what happened.
Around 18 months ago I got a knock on the door from a British Gas salesman. To cut a long story short he said that he would compare my current bills to what they could offer... only I have to agree by signing a form. He caught me in the middle of looking after my kids, so I agreed as he assured me I wasn't signing up. A week later I got a letter welcoming me to British Gas. Obviously I wasn't happy, so I called to move back to my old supplier of NPower. I was with British Gas for no more than a month or two. When I switched back my Electric was no problem... but they refused to move the gas due to some time limit or something... eventually... they moved the gas back to NPower and sent me a closing statement with a cheque after I had overpaid. I then realised a couple of months later that I didn't seem to be paying a gas bill... so chased this up and was advised that it was being looked into. Anyway... at the start of the year I moved to E-on in the hope that this could all be sorted out, and e-on said that NPower had no trace of me as a gas customer, and neither did British Gas... they looked deeper into this and was advised from somewhere (not sure where) that I was classed as a business customer... with then no real advice what to do next as they were looking into it, but heve never got back to me.
Now I'm still not paying anything for gas, but my concern is the bill I could be slapped with when I haven't done anything wrong.
Any advice is appreciated.

I would make sure you have put some money aside to cover the bill when it arrives, as I am sure that someone will bill you.
I suggest you keep on at eon if that is where you want to go to, and make them understand you are a private customer.
I am sure othes will be along soon with more advise.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

I had a similar situation and 8 weeks ago received a whopping great bill for £1998  . I rang customer services to look into the situation and they stated as it was a problem on their side they would pass it on to the gas team who would then offer a ex gratia discount on the amount but it would take a while to look into. Today I received an amended bill for £931 (that was with my new quarter added to the balance) still a large amount to pay in one go but better than it was :j . Definately put aside something to cover roughly what you think you owe so its not too much for you to pay when all is done.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0

I'd stick the money to roughly cover the bill in an instant-access savings account, and be happy that the interest is lining your wallet not theirs!0
