Npower to drop prices by 20%
There is a big promotional NPower sales truck in Taunton today. I am currently an NPower customer, so i asked the guy if they were going to drop their prices. Not only did he say 'yes by about 20%' he also said the annual rebate is going to go up to £70 from £60. He said to watch out for the announcement on Wednesday.…

gas prices
I have been paying £33 per month direct debit for gas and £44.50 for electricity to Npower. I have just received my latest gas bill(estimated - why don't they read the meter more often?) and they are now asking for £59 a month to cover my gas bill! When are their prices coming down?

Beware when switching to Npower
I tried to switch supplier through one of the cash back websites but when I got the contact from Npower the tariffs were higher than those quoted on their website. I cancelled the contact and set up direct on the Npower website and the contract I received was again at higher tariff prices. I am waiting for an amended…

Green
I'm in the process of buying my first home, and have been looking into utility providers. I'd like, where possible to choose an electric supplier that uses a renewable energy source, and have been looking at Scottish Hydro Electric. Has anyone had any dealings with these? I've come accross a couple of other providers such…

Powergen cuts prices in energy battle with British Gas
Powergen will today wade into the energy price war by cutting bills and guaranteeing to be cheaper than British Gas for at least the next 18 months, The Times has learnt. Dual-fuel gas and electricity rates will come down by 8 per cent or £79 a year as Powergen tries to stop customers switching to its fierce rival. But the…

Write don't Ring!!
Reading these threads, there must be literally hundreds of posts that say: “I have rung them many times over the past xx months.” “I have spent hours on the phone listening to music” We all know that the customer service centres for most utility companies are poor. A phone call on a complicated issue will rarely get dealt…

*UPDATED* British Gas decrease- effect on the various tariffs, new tariffs & offers
There are quite a lot of questions such as 'am I eligible for this' and 'will prices be dropping for that', so I have done some digging. Firstly, the price decrease only affects the standard tariff. This means people who pay the standard rate on a credit meter. The drop in gas is fixed across the country (they only have…

Electric Meter Problem
I have been having trouble with Scottish Hydro Electric since 2005. We changed a token meter to a credit meter in October 05. Up until December 06 I rang Scottish Hydro every month to ask about my bill & if I could set up a D/D to start paying. They constantly told me their records showed me as having a token meter. They…

Can anyone help?
Hi just wondering if anyone would know the answer to this one. Today my electricity went down for most of the day causing all of my food in the freezer to defrost and become useless. Apprently it was some sort of explosion in the area that made most of the houses black out. Is there any way I can claim for the loss of food…

How to get British Gas to respond to you
I don't know if this is news or not, but in case not....... I've been trying to resolve a fairly minor issue with British Gas (under £100 at stake) for almost a year now, don't bother writing or emailing as in my certain experience you will be ignored, if you get through on the 'phone anything agreed will not be carried…

Meter access blocked by letting agents
This isn't specifically a money saving question, but I'm having a problem getting meter readings in order to correct the inaccurate estimated bills I've received. I live in an old, large house which has been converted into 12 flats. The electricity, gas meters and telephone equipment are all kept in a locked room…

Action needed!!!
Cavalier attitude from EDF energy! They are saying ''we don't need to reduce our gas and electricity prices as we were always cheaper than BG etc and we have no plans in the pipeline to reduce prices in the near future'', This is what I was told today when I called EDF and asked them when they were going to do the…

I live (we rent) in a one bedroom maisonette with my fiancee, have the heating on for 1/2 hour in the morning when we get up, and 1/2 hour when I get home, do "average" laundry for two people yet NPower want to up our monthly direct debit from £35 to £50 a month! Direct Debit increases
I received my gas bill recently, EDF, and even though I was in credit and going through a mild winter they had upped my direct debit from £50 to £90 per month. I wrote to them and they have dropped it again but is this just a scam to get lots of money in their coffers and collect the interest. Please check your bills and…

Gas will not swap!!!!
Is anybody else having this problem: Both my Gas & Electric were with Scottish Power I did a new search through USwitch and it recommended Atlantic. The electric switched ok but the gas will not. Breaking Utilities Contracts
I have fixed rate contracts with British Gas for gas (happy with that!) and electricity (one year up to last month. Ok with that too!). I own a pub and live above it, so the contract is "business" tho' allowance is made for the fact that part usage is domestic. The original contract, in v. small print (I'm 60 for God's…

Switching supplier via UK Power - delays?
HI all I applied to switch from my current supplier to Ecotricity via the UK Power link from the MSE email (to get the cashback) on 31 Dec. It says it takes about 6 weeks (which was up last Sun), but there are also supposed to be interim stages e.g. you get 7 days to reconsider, then after another 3 weeks you get a welcome…
