Can anyone help?

Hi just wondering if anyone would know the answer to this one. Today my electricity went down for most of the day causing all of my food in the freezer to defrost and become useless. Apprently it was some sort of explosion in the area that made most of the houses black out. Is there any way I can claim for the loss of food or is it tough luck?

If the failure lasted for more than 18 hours then you will be entitled to £50 compensation. Anything less than that will depend on your supplier but if it was less than 12 hours I wouldn't be too hopeful.
In the event of a power failure the electricity supplier would be entitled to expect you to take reasonable measures to ensure that your freezer did not defrost unnessarily quickly. A full, decent (category A) freezer should take 8 hours before it starts defrosting at 10 degrees C provided the door is kept closed.
Most home contents insurance policies will cover loss of food in a freezer due to power failure.0 -
Thanks for that, I was at work when it happened so I couldn't do much to save my food which is annoying. i don't know what catagory my freezer is, its just a fridge freezer
i'll have a look at my home insurance and see what that says. Thanks again
