I am confused as to what settings to put hot water on. My tank in the bathroom has a thermostat dial which I am presuming is the temperature of the water but the boiler itself has a dial on it from 0-6 and I dont know what this is for. I tend to put it on 3 but havent a clue so would be grateful if someone could enlighten…

British Gas forcing me to prepayment meter, can I stop it?
Okay.. brief background. I switched both electricity and gas through BG around 3 yrs ago and whilst I paid the electricity, I left the gas bill running a little longer than what I should have. I left it mainly, because they were charging me around £60 per qtr which was very handy. So... They eventually came out (at my…

IGT Charge - Someone asked before
If any suppliers don't charge this - Powergen don't charge an IGT Charge on there Gas Guarantee product. The Basic outline of the tariff is that there prices will be cheaper then British Gas's until June 2007. Just incase anyone is interested. I know a few people were asking about it before.

Switching from pre-pay to monthy direct debit
Hi, I have done the comparison and it seems I could save about £120 a year by switching my electricity from Scottish power manweb to Npower and at the same time from pre-pay card meter to mothly direct debit. What the sites don't tell you however is if there is a charge to change the meter from pre-pay to ordinary, does…

Just received a bill from 2 years ago - do I have to pay it?!
I've just received an £80.75 bill from Powergen for electricity used in 2004. I no longer live at that address (I only lived there 5 months). I've had no previous letters from Powergen saying that I owe them anything. This has come right out of the blue. I've had a look and it seems that the bill might be right - I've no…

uSwitch Confusion!
I've just made an enquiry through the uSwitch web site and it told me that I would save a significant amount of money if I switched to Southern Electric from my current supplier npower for both Electricity and Gas. Before switching I thought I'd just double check by running the comparison again but this time saying I…

Please somebody advise us! Powergen charges.
Hi, I have been desperately seeking Powergen tariffs online but they aren't there. The reason is, our bills for a small bungalow are horrendous and we do not know why. We moved in at Christmas 2005 with a Heatwise meter and all-electric heating (storage heaters) so we expected a high bill but by the time they deigned to…

Local Energy rates vs National Energy rates
Hi there, Are the following statements true? 1) Uswitch and other comparison sites quote on the national gas, electric rate for comparison of the best service to move to. 2) There exists a local rate for gas, electric 3) Comparisons sites do not compare local rates 4) Therefore you may get a better deal by finding out best…

HELP - meter eating electricity
Can someone shed any light on this for me? I'm on a pre-payment meter, and the electric just unexpectedly went off. I looked at the meter - the money had run out. I'd only put money on it on Sunday, and normally that would last until probably Friday or Saturday, depending on what we were doing. I took the key out, put £5…

Trees and power lines
Just to let you know that if you have trees/hedging interfering with power lines, you don't have to pay to get them cut back. Contact Central Networks (in the phone book) and they will survey it first. They will then schedule the work and do it for free!

7,000kw of electricity used per anum...reasonable?
Just seems rather a lot to me (I've just added it up). We live in a 4 bed semi, 2 adults 2 teenage sons. 3 PCs, 5 TVs, 2x Sky+, 4 DVD players, 2 xboxes (God, we sound soooo materialistic :o ). Electric cooker, 2x electric showers, gas central heating. Is 7,000kw of leccy silly or about right, you reckon? Edit: Forgot the…

I've recently looked into all our spending habits and am saving loads of money thanks to the lovely people on MSE.
