Just switched - possible price rises?

Hi,

I just agreed to switch electric supplier due to the email recommending to do this recently.

I went through energyhelpline and it came out with british gas so fair enough i thought, and i went with them. Job Done.

Now i come on here and see that the supply i've just signed up for (click online) is looking at an imminent price rise, and aparrently so are the second placed company on the list (atlantic)

After that are scottish power and southern electric.

So it seems to me i may just be wasting my time here and it could just be a load of hassle for unknown gain?

I'm now wondering whether i should go ahead and see what happens or just stop the process and stick with what i have right now?

Any advice?

  • You should take advantage of any capped type offer to gain full value from your provider. it may be that when you looked on Uswitch the prices included that.

BG are currently offering Fix and fall which you may be interested in now you are with them
"we guarantee at the end of next year your energy prices will actually fall by 5% right up until 31st December 2008",
"No cancellation charges and no tie-ins",
    "No additional costs",

It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

It's not a capped type offer though is it? I haven't applied for fix and fall and by the looks of things i couldn't anyway as it is gas and electric and i only have electric in my flat.

What i would like some help deciding is whether i should cancel the switch and look at another company, go ahead anyway or just stay with what i have for now.

Mainly because i now have 6 days left of my 7 day cooling off period.

    Cheers.
  • Who knows exactly what these energy companies will do? However, I have read on here that it is expected that the tariff you have applied to will be increasing before the end of the year, which will mean switching again if you want the cheapest price!

    dnrc,
In changing suppliers, or opting for fixed/capped tariffs, you are just gambling like the rest of us.

Studying 'form' on sites like this might shorten the odds, but you are still gambling.

Is it worth the hassle of changing suppliers? For me a resounding No; for others Yes.
  • My mum switched our gas&elec through I think it was Uswitch and 2 days later we heard about gas rises. So we just phoned up and cancelled the switch. There is a cooling off period on distance selling so just ring up if you want to cancel the switch.

We even phoned the provider we were switching to and told them that we were switching but then changed our minds and to cancel anything that comes through. As you know sometimes things don't get communicated down the line so it's worth making sure by ringing the provider you were going to switch to as well.

Capped was more expensive for us back at the start of the year but now we are much better off as prices have risen above the cap price and with winter coming we are safe from any further rises for 2 more years I believe. But energy prices are meant to level off next year with new gas pipelines being opened so it may reduce but thats not guarantee.
