Atlantic, is it the cheapest?
I was advised by MSE member Masonic, that Atlantic raised their prices in January. Will they be increasing in 5 months time? Are we better leaving Powergen and going for one which increased their price more recently? I notice that others in the group ( Scottish and Southern Energy , Southern Electric, SWALEC and Scottish…

EDF Fixed Price 2010 Dual Fuel
I'm currently with Powergen on their EnergyOnline pre June 2006 tariff. I read the news that their rates will increase and, having rung them, the rates will increase for me on 6/9/2006. I'm now tempted to go for a fixed price deal. Powergen offer one but the rates on that are quite high. The rates on the EDF one mentioned…

The california experience
Doesn't all this seem to be reminiscent of the experience in California a couple of years back - rocketing gas and electricity prices, power cuts (cc London July 2006). It turned out that the power suppliers - importing power from outside California - were deliberately restricting supplies in order to force up prices.…

tracking spreadsheet?
Hi.. have read plenty of posts from people tracking leccy and gas bills in spreadsheets - no you are not sad - but haven't seen any details of them. I'm not really lazy - but if someone's already done one which can be used to monitor useage from bills and between bills.. and maybe do little graphs too - I'd love to grab…

problems with free champagne from Uswitch
Dunno about anyone else, but I had immense problems getting the free champagne out of Uswitch. After almost two months of excuses, I finally got fed up, and wrote a letter which I posted recorded delivery saying - I get the champagne within 14 days or without further warning I file a claim in the local small claims court…

WARNING! EDF Energy Customers
This is an email I have just received from a user about EDF's recent price rises which i thought you may find interesting: I've just had two letters stating that EDF have raised their prices as of 31/7/2006 yet the letters were dated August 2006. I then had 2 bills (Gas and Elec dual fuel customer etc) with rates charged…

It sounds to me like another "Little Earner" for the suppliers.
Does anyone know the reason for the two rates charged monthly by Electricity suppliers? Rate 1: for the first 225 units is charged at nearly 15p per unit. Rate 2: charge is nearly 10p per unit thereafter. Customer services say that rate 1 is charged based on a national average charge. But they can't explain why this is so.…

capped Gas & Electric
Hi all, I have changed to Scottish Power, in January. I got a capped account untill September 2007. I have then sat back & thought I have missed all the rises. But I have seen all the news of late in the papers,(like everyone else). Even if you have a capped account, are the power companies still going to pass on the…

British Gas "goodwill gesture"?
Hello Does anyone know if British Gas offer you a "goodwill gesture" if they arrange to come on a set day and then fail to turn up? If they don't offer this, can anyone suggest a sum i should gently suggest to them that they should knock off my gas bill? I'm a bit peeved that they sent me a letter stating is was imperative…

Costs of Equipment
I have done a spreadsheet for the costs of running items in the home, and putting them on stanby. My new rule of thumb is, whatever the watts, that will be £1 per year if constantly left on. No of Watts x £1 per year. 50" Plasma 300watts =£300 per year! Sorry the formatting doesn't work, can any Mods help in that? I lost…

Should I switch?
Morning, I switched from British Gas to EDF a couple of years ago and today (after reading Martins time to switch) I have just run my details through simply switch to get an idea how much I could save by switching again. Staggeringly it threw up British Gas!! Apparently I could benefit from a massive 29.5% reduction taking…

storage heaters
Our house doesn't have gas, we have currently renovating the house (very slowly) the living room is nearly done and we have just invested in a wood burner, which should be effiecient as O/H is a carpenter so all the wood is free (as long as he cuts it up small enough!) The room did have a storage heater in it but it never…
