This is an email I have just received from a user about EDF's recent price rises which i thought you may find interesting:
I've just had two letters stating that EDF have raised
their prices as of 31/7/2006 yet the letters were
dated August 2006.
I then had 2 bills (Gas and Elec dual fuel customer
etc) with rates charged at the new prices rather than
my old cheaper prices.
I called customer services, had a rant and they agreed
to take my present readings and charge me at my
cheaper rate, and then anything from today onwards
would be charged at the new increased rate.
Anyone who does give them a call is entitled to have
their given meter reading taken at the lower price,
and then everything else onwards and upwards from the
reading date at the more expensive rate - which is
where you can then decide to change suppliers again to
a cheaper supplier!!!
For full details on how to get cashback and my top pick comparison services read Time To Switch: Find the cheapest gas & elec supplier.

I signed on to their so-called Self Read system when I joined them, for which I get about £8 a quarter - for the few minutes it takes me to read my meters and report them to EDF online (money for old rope in my opinion).
Because of the price change on 31/7 I took the precaution of reporting my figures to EDF on that day, even though my quarterly report wasn't due to be made till later this month.
So at least I've got some evidence to back me up, should there be any problems.

On the positive side with I managed to jump on their capped tariff until 2008 on July 26th!!! And I still got the old rates (I'm in the switching process now).0

Hi everyone,
I switched to EDF's London Energy online tariff in May as it was the best at the time. I've yet to receive any bills though and it says on my account page that my bills are due out in Sept. I haven't had anything through the post from EDF saying they're putting the prices up for this online tariff but if they've put their normal tariff prices up I can only assume they will put the online ones up too. Has anyone heard anything about a price rise in the online tariff? I'm just a bit concerned about what martin's saying about people getting charged at the higher rate as I don't want my bill for May to Sept to be at a much higher rate than what I signed up to! Does this only apply to those on normal EDF tariffs though? Thanks for any help.
Regards

online tarriffs did not go up in price - only standard and prepayment tarriffs went up.0

I switched to EDF online tariff (actually seeboard at the time) in May this year. They put up the gas and electricity prices by 10.6% from 31/7.
I've just had my first gas bill. They've estimated my meter reading at 31/7 and charged me at the old rate before then and the new rate since then. They also estimated my current meter reading. They've greatly overestimated my usage so I effectively get away with the old rate for a bit longer.
Have done a price comparison and they still seem cheapest for me0 -
I signed up in May on the online tariff and received a letter in July telling me about the new price increase. I also signed up to the read & reduce scheme and input the meter readings on 31st July, and 10th August. My bill received this week has split my usage based on 31st July reading..Edf are still the cheapest for me despite the price rise...0

Sorry but they have gone up. I was on the online tariff with London energy (now oficially EDF) and it went up from July.
I did the usual checks and they are still the cheapest for me so i will stick with them for now.0 -
I believe EDF had several versions of their online tariff prior to 31 July 2006(only available thro the comparison sites} They went up on 31/7/06 by varying amounts. This quote from another threadEDF had announced their increases as 19% for electricity and 9.1% for gas. I worked out my savings based on this. However when I got the letter from EDF the increases were 20% for both, despite their letter telling me that it was 10.7%.0

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies. I'm not surprised to hear they've put prices up - did you get a letter about the price increase as I haven't? I just tried the comparison sites to see what the new prices for London Energy Online Tariff is but it doesn't come up in the list at all on either energyhelpline or uswitch which is a bit strange. Can anyone tell me what the new prices are then - how much has it gone up?! You would think they would need to inform customers but I've genuinely heard nothing! The prices I signed up to in march were
8.12p for first 900Kwh a year then 6.17p thereafter for electricity
2.678p for first 5860 kwh a year then 1.779p thereafter for gas
The tariff's called online tariff 4 if that makes any difference. If anyone on this price plan could give me a heads up on what the prices are now I'd be grateful - can you find them on the website as I had a look and couldn't see them? Sounds like you're at least getting the old rates til 31st July so I'll make sure when I get the first quarterly bill that I get that. I've signed up for the read reduce scheme too and put my readings in every month but they never acknowledge receipt of them or update the account in any way - guess I'm just used to Scottish Power website where you put the new meter reading in and they immediately create a bill! Thanks for any help.

I'm in the same area so it might help although I was on tariff v3.1 and not 4.1 as you were.
Gas
2.678p(first 1465 kWk used each quarter) was (prior to 31.7.06)2.231p
1.907p was 1.590p
Electricity
11.34p(first 225 kWh used each quarter) was 9.45p
7.22p was 6.03p
However after looking at Energyhelpline and entering my details as Online, instead of Online pre April 2006. it quotes exactly the same prices as you have given. It looks like you are exempt from this increase which is why you haven't got a letter yet :beer:0
