greetings,

just a quick post to confirm to anyone with ebico gas and electric that the prices will be increasing as expected. i had a email from them today answering some of questions i asked about my account and they also confirmed they are looking at september for the increases. but even with these prices increases they are still by far the cheapest option for me.
this will probalbley be the only price rise for the next 12 months as they are a non profit organization. see below for the email and info.

hope this info is of help to someone!

Dear Mr

Thank you for your enquiry, I apologize for the delayed reply.

The Economy 7 Night Rate applies from 11pm 'til 6am GMT every day (i.e. including weekends). Because it's based on GMT, in the summer time the Night Rate applies from midnight 'til 7am BST.

We will be reviewing our prices in September. The current indications are that the gas price will increase by around 30%, while electricity increases will be limited to 20-25%. The new prices will be published on the website within the next couple of days.

Regards

Thank you so much for putting me out of my misery! Have been wondering what the increase would be since I joined them last month, just wish I had switched a year ago and saved myself about £400 - it's that hindsight thing again!!

Any idea how this compares to the other companies who have had a couple of increases?
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Just got my Southern bills today and phoned them with ACTUAL readings.
Curious automatic responses...."we did not expect these readings, will you please check and if correct , say, correct".

Time to bite the bullet, I suppose.

It may be worth submitting some actual readings, so that at least the pre-increase usage is charged at the pre-increase rate.

My actual increases are 31.4% and 23.0% (VAT EX - elec varies by region). Aaaagh! Time to shop around again, methinks.

Not sure whether this might help anyone wishing to understand the full impact:

I live in southern region, and have done comparisons of the Southern Electricity prices for quarterly payment with Ebico both for the prices in being in September 2005 and similarly of curent Southern prices and the EBICO ones due next month. Below are my initial and hopefully final findings

    Gas
    Range considered up to 40000kWh/year
Discount over Southern reduced by about 11 to 12 percentage points
Equigas was cheaper throughout range but now the break-even point is about 22000 kWh/year

    Electricity
    Range considered up to 12000kWh/year
Discount over Southern reduced by 9 to 11 percentage points with lower uses the beneficiaries of lower reduction. To an extent this is due to Southern reducing the number of higher priced units from 728 to 364 per quarter.
Ebico used to be advantageous up to about 9500 kWh/year now only up to about 4000kWh

My impression is that the new prices are skewed (accident or design??) so that heavier users, presumably those in large properties and well off, do not find EBICO attractive. Personally that pleases me, as it means that Ebico maintains its social function. The well off should pay a commercial price and not picl-a-back on someting that is meant for the not so. Another questionin my mind is, how much of the percentage point reduction can be attributed to the greedy rich all eready on the bandwagon.
