ebico prices

It does occur to me that if Ebico only change prices once a year I might have to pay a higher amount for a while if others cut 'mid ebico year'. But as that would be mostly summer, I can live with it.

I just did a comparison on energyhelpline. The only one which was cheaper was British Gas one click. It was £26 cheaper. £15 of that was a discount to new customers and you don't get paper bills. You also have to phone a premium rate number to contact ythem about that tariff, so I am staying put with Equipower. Its not worth chopping and changing for the sake of a tenner.0

This is all a case of personal opinion of course but it seems to me that you need to take a calm reasoned view of things. I refixed my mortgage for 7 years when others were pushing trackers because I thought that was where the smart money was. IMO the smart money is currently not with fixed energy rates (but it might have been last year).

Two virtual pints on the bet it is then:beer:
As I said in this thread:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=250683
I would not bet against some cut in the near future, but for prices not to have risen over the next 3 years 8 months would be remarkable. However I totally accept that is just a personal opinion.
In fact had I not opted in to the BG fixed deal last year, I would still opt for one of the capped/fixed deals now; but now as last year it is just a gamble based on gut instinct.0 -
British Gas whacked their prices up yet again recently.
Next day on the telly they`re promoting "fix and fall".
Fix your price now and they guarantee your prices will fall at the end of NEXT YEAR.
Big deal.
The amount they have whacked up prices this year alone is totally obscene and to increase them even more for this latest gimmick is beyond belief.
But what`s even more incredible is people actually fall for this spiel and sign up.
Of course they`ll cut them at the end of next year after they`ve bled you dry in the meantime.
Reminds me of the 10% off sale after they put 20% on in the first place.0 -

Nearly all of the companies have increased their prices by a similar amount - not just BG.
It is not incredible that people fall for the spiel. They are taking a gamble, as are BG.
With every fixed price tariff that has been offered, especially the BG 2010 one last year, there have been those posting here in a similar vien and manner to your post above. - Must be stupid to pay more - BG know far more than they are letting on - prices will drop etc etc.
In every case the doubters have been proved wrong and those opting for the fixed/capped price deal have gained.
You may well be right and it will turn out to be a poor deal, as before with these tariffs it is simply a gamble. However I suggest your authoritative statement is simply based on a guess – just like the rest of us.0 -

When I checked the Ebico site I couldn't see any mention of the new price being in place until next September. It just said that they will review things as and when necessary, so hopefully if prices do fall a bit Ebico will reduce their price accordingly.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Not in every case as you well know
As we have recently discussed, my saving over the BG 2010 was about £300 by moving to London Energy Online. The recent increase on 31st July has reduced that saving to around £120 but I'm still ahead so far with £225 of actual savings in my pocket and not BG's.0 -

Conceded!
I accept that your particular(and now unavailable) tariff -in your area - is still ultra competitive(perhaps the only circumstance where BG fixed to 2010 is beaten on price) and in my area it is more expensive. However in the next 3 years 8 months the situation could change either way as you and I have discussed.
However historically with all the major players BG, Npower, Powergen etc electing for their fixed price tariffs has proved beneficial over their standard tariffs and are cheaper than Ebico - which is what this thread is about.
My point is that going for a fixed tariff is a gamble - I took it last year and you didn't; and it will be April 2010 before we know who guessed correctly. That is very different from the post in question that proclaims with absolute certainty that BG's latest offer is rubbish.0
