What should I say?
I was let go from my first job a few months ago (I was there for 7 months) and I was wondering what I should put on application forms (if asked) and at interviews. I had made a mistake the week before (sent a request for a reference to the wrong place), but was told that although I shouldn't have done it to put it down to…

Inland revenue
Wasn't sure where to post this so posted it here. It appears that there are big problems at the tax office, and according to the job centre it is very wide spread with 100's of people contacting Wrexham Jobcentre alone. Basically my partner received her tax refund, was expecting 380, however only got 68.00, this was due to…

It is a temporary contract for 6 months with a 2 weeks notice from either side. The agency of the new job asked me to come in and sign the papers as they ''wouldn't want to send them to me, then me…

getting a bit fed up at work
Just a little moan.... My boss called me into their office for one of those ‘how are you getting on’ chats - we had one before when i started a new role and i have since been trying to improve on some points that we made and what not. Our last chat however - i found myself disagreeing on some things. Some pretty far…

Moving to & Working in Australia
I've been thinking about this recently. I'm quite happy in the job I'm in now but at the moment I'm only on a temp, week to week contract, which is far from brilliant, though I know work is work right now which is better than nothing. Anyway, I was thinking about what it might be like to move to Aus. I've got family out…

work whinge
Took a fixed term contract in May last year in one role within a company. At the end of that contract my manager told me they were changing the role and it would need more PM experience than I have (25 gangs 3 counties, rolling 23 week programme for a period of 2.5 years) He then hired someone who already worked here with…

Recruitment agency ID
I was made redundant a couple of weeks ago, thankfully I get paid for another month so it gives me time to look for work. I've applied for a few jobs but not been successful so far. I've just called an agency to get on to their books but they need ID, that's fine obviously BUT they also need 2 x proof of address which I…

Job Centre Skills Training Course
Has anyone been on the 'compulsory' skills training course from the job centre? Apparently its to go over my CV and job hunting skills and lasts a day and a half. I've done several of these type courses through my employer before I finished work, including one run by RightManagement. I really don't see the point in doing…

Call centre apprenticeship!
My daughters boyfriend has been pushed into a job by the job centre, cold calling people and basically told if he does not take the job he will not receive any job seekers allowance. The job is working for a PPI claims company and he is being paid £100 per week, think this is way too low for a 20 year old lad,and is left…

Have been toying with the thought of doign an MBA for a few years now... currently just under 30 and probably hitting a ceiling in my profession with near 50k income. Work-life balance is ok, live in Scotland. I know people who've graduated from LSE (cost £50k over two years full-time) and Strathclyde (£24k over one year…

Do I need to register as a VAT registered company?
Hi, Apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere on the forums. I am currently in full time employment and have been asked to do a few pieces of work outside my full time job. For this work I have been asked to invoice the company. Do I need to register as a VAT registered company or can I just fill in a…

Job Track scheme, greater anglia
quite a good scheme to help with travel costs... Of course its run just to encourage use trains and getting people to take jobs that will ultimately be buying season tickets. However good for anyone in area applying for jobs in London, couple of months free travel then move to job location after.
