                    Just a little moan....
My boss called me into their office for one of those ‘how are you getting on’ chats - we had one before when i started a new role and i have since been trying to improve on some points that we made and what not. Our last chat however - i found myself disagreeing on some things. Some pretty far fetched assumptions were being made that i felt were unfair. Work was criticised that wasn’t even mine - which obviously i brought to their attention, but the good work i have done wasn’t even mentioned. It was literally like this ‘you’re clearly struggling with this, thats not right, you need to work on this, this needs to be more like this.... etc etc
I came away feeling like i wasn’t doing my job properly and was some sort of ‘special case’. A colleague of mine also switched to a similar role at the same time and hasn’t had any of these little chats which makes me feel even worse - like i’m lagging behind and they want to keep a close eye on me but won’t come out and say it. Colleagues of mine are really surprised by it all and have no idea where its come from.
I know i should really bring it up and get it clarified - but i just feel like nothing i do is ever good enough. There’s never any thanks for starting early or staying late - then when i want to take time in liu i get moaned at for not asking sooner / later etc even tho i always say i’ll take it when its convenient for them!
I don’t mind criticism - but surely it needs to be balanced with some positive feedback to? it’s starting to make me question whether i am in the right place - i know an opportunity is on the horizon and i’m very tempted to cut my losses and go for it but then if i don’t get that - everyones gonna know i want out and i’m gonna have to deal with that situation... awkward...

It's not nice feeling undervalued at work but now is the time for you to have a going forward chat with your boss.
Go in on Monday and ask for a chat as it's obviously bothering you.
A good boss will listen and take on-board what your saying and hopefully things at work will improve. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

I can sympathise...I had exactly the same thing happen with me. The owner of the company was complaining I wasn't up to scratch, wasn't pulling my weight...my direct manager had very few issues with me, so I was rather surprised - he knew how hard I worked, how much effort I put in and how much money I had saved the company by keeping marketing, etc, in house rather than outsourcing. Owner of the company ignored all of this and just decided all of a sudden I was no good? Came totally our of the blue, and in my case, it was used as an excuse to "let me go", so watch out!0

thanks, i doubt it will go as far as getting rid of me - policies etc and with the current climate they are fighting to hold onto staff so unless its really serious or i completely disregard any help for improving i don’t feel like i should stress out about that.
I’ve had a few days to mull it over and can agree on where i need to improve. All i can do is go to work on monday and find that get up and go to start making this job work for me.0

            Never say never.
Indeed...when I joined the company I worked for they were over the moon with me - overnight something (and I am still not sure what!) changed. The company has been growing so far, but I am beginning to see cracks appearing - other staff aren't happy, boss (despite my attempts to rectify this) still hasn't got consistent systems in place to get stuff done...I can see things going bad very quickly.
I guess what I am trying to say is nothing is ever certain. And making assumptions that it is can be dangerous and leave you vulnerable. I'm not saying you should be walking around worrying all day, but being aware of the possibilities would certainly help, and it's a lesson I wish I'd learned sooner!0

How about writing a brief email with some 'afterthoughts'?
 Dear XXX
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on XXX.
Having now had the opportunity to consider your feedback I just wanted to confirm my thoughts:
 x point one
 x point two
 x point three
Please feel free to come back to me with any queries you may have as I do feel it is important that we both have a clear undertanding of the matters discussed.
 Kind regards
 xx:hello:0

If these problems/gaps/cracks are so obvious why are they not getting fixed.
Remember bosses need scapegoats so it takes time for their bosses to realise where the real problem is.0

You're a pushover that is your problem.
I've always been like you, tried to be considerate, tried to make everything convenient for the bosses, tried to give them as little hassle as possible etc. Then they walk all over you, use you as the scapegoat,. blame you for things going wrong etc.
Bottom line is that when they c*ck something up, they'll look for someone below them to take the can. The weakest person is always the easiest one to pass the buck on to. It's happened to me time and time again.
You get one of those little short f*t trolls though with a big mouth who isn't afraid to speak up and defend themselves (even while on probation) and they never get any greif from the bosses because they know it will be a can of worms.
 You see my point?0
