Try the national careers service. Great site. You type the relevant info and it puts it in to a cv for you
2012 wins! can of deodorant, a personalised Bean, craft show tickets, Top Gear Live Tickets, Case of sourz fusion
  • I asked for CV advice in another thread and someone suggested I visit a Job Club. I made an appointment and went last week. Well worth going. The advisor said my CV was ok but he suggested a few changes, basically the outlay and altered a few words, and what a difference it made
  • There are loads of great templates on the internet that you can use. I would always suggest altering them slightly in terms of colour though to help you stand out from others who may have used the template.
  • Try searching Google for CVCentre - I have used and recommended them before. They do a free cv review - but if course want you to pay to rewrite it. But not aggressively and did a good result.
Strange but IMO so many people dont put the effort into a CV and expect what they know in their head to sell themselves. Actually a CV is your MOST important career document so worth the effort.
  • I have searched but I wondered if someone had one that they found to be really good.

Very true. After much alteration to my CV it went from ok to amazing! lol. I realised I missed a lot of information off of the job descriptions all because I was trying to condense it because I've had so many jobs.

A few CV tips I've been told recently when I was doing mine, by my mum who helps other people get into work with their CVs/interviews.etc and a few others:

A bit of colour goes a long way - blue, green and purple are good colours
Times New Roman is outdated - go for a different font - I use Calibri now
CVs for large companies sometimes go through computer programmes checking for phrases and words. so when sending your CV, especially to large organisation make sure your CV has keywords specific to your industry (eg. customer service, communication or more some weird IT programme that people might use)
Bullet points are good for key points standing out, like in a job description.
Have an amazing personal profile near the top under your name
Put your name at the top in bold/size 18/20 - so it stands out from everything else.

So once you've got a basic CV laid out you can make changes to suit you and your personality, whilst keeping it professional
