Enormous gap in CV, eek!??
Hello I've been unemployed since late 2007 and this year I'm determined to turn my mess of a life around - starting with finding a job. I've recently got in touch with a careers advisor, and started some voluntary work. I'm sending my CV off everywhere and applying for everything I can. But at our latest appointment my CA…

Rolled up holiday pay
Is this not allowed anymore even for supply type work? Relative is a supply teacher who gets paid an hourly rate for teaching as and when needed. Sometimes she will work a day or two and just put in a claim for hours worked or sometimes she will get a contract for a term or two. For the longer contracts she still just gets…

Payment for Training
If I work my 37.5 standard hours a week, and attend a training day which is additional to my normal working hours, why is my employer telling me he will only pay me at a standard rate, not time and a half which is my typical overtime rate? Any help you can offer would be great, thx. Best wishes Jumpy

Open University study advice?
I did a couple of Open Uni modules a few years back when I was unemployed, and obviously being unemployed time wasn't an issue, however I am now struggling to balance work and family life. I started a 60 point course, they say 16 hours, the blocks maybe take 16 hours but add in TMA's CMA's etc it works out a lot more. I…

Question for Secretaries/PAs
I know that the secretarial/PA role has changed dramatically over the years. I've been a legal secretary for 27 years, at Chairman/PA level for the past 20. My main boss is retiring soon and I will then be working for a younger partner (it's a law firm). My "old school" boss kept me pretty busy with his work and personal…

Having to work in London more than I'd like
The company I work for was acquired last year. The new contract states my place of work as our current office, and I was doing 1 day a week in the London office. However, my new manager now is asking me to work two days in London... a 2 hour train either way and 30 mins either side - so in total 6 hours travel each time I…

I was told they were hoping to short list by end of this week. I haven't heard anything yet. I really want to chase them as it is my dream job and I have an interview somewhere else on Wednesday but I really want to hold on for this other job. I don't want to come across as too pushy and desperate, how Long would you wait?
